Summary
Reporting into the Asphalt Production and Quality Control Management team, the Asphalt Engineer is responsible for supporting the design and production of asphalt mixes across the Central Ontario region. This role plays a critical part in ensuring product quality for heavy civil and road construction projects and works closely with laboratory technicians, plant operators, and project managers. You will be responsible for assisting in the technical development of asphalt products while maintaining data integrity and operational efficiency.
Primary Scope Of Role
Product Design & Laboratory Execution
Analyze project specifications to initiate and drive the asphalt design process in the lab. Create production datasheets for asphalt plants to ensure precise execution of designs. Optimize design proportions for production facilities based on cost and quality metrics. Execute lab testing and monitor field trials to validate product performance.
Stakeholder Collaboration & Communication
Partner with asphalt plant teams to coordinate production requirements and design implementation. Communicate insights, field trial results, and technical recommendations to management. Confirm project requirements for prospective projects by collaborating with regional leads.
Data Integrity & Process Improvement
Maintain and update the master database with components and specifications of new asphalt designs. Identify opportunities to improve mix efficiency and cost-effectiveness through data analysis. Ensure adherence to industry standards and quality control protocols throughout the design lifecycle.
Operational Support
Ensure all laboratory and field trial documentation is accurate and organized. Mitigate production risks by verifying field trial results before full-scale manufacturing. Maintain a safe and organized work environment within the laboratory and production facilities.
Position Requirements
Current enrollment in, or completion of, a post-secondary program in Engineering or Engineering Technology. Experience or interest in civil engineering, construction materials, or asphalt production. Proven ability to manage multiple pieces of information with high attention to detail. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical reporting. Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team-based environment. Valid G class license with a good driving record.
What We Offer
Expected Base Salary: $50,000 - $55,000 per year. The actual base salary will depend on several factors including experience, qualifications, internal equity, work location and market expectations.
