Job Summary The Business Advisor provides priority support for major development projects that are politically or economically significant to the City. The role facilitates strategic oversight from project ideation through to occupancy, fostering innovation, collaboration, and exceptional customer service.

The Business Advisor also supports internal stakeholders by optimizing business systems, advancing strategic initiatives, and recommending improvements to service delivery. This role contributes to divisional projects and continuous improvement efforts, while providing regular updates on project status and progress to senior leadership.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure priority applications are supported through a streamlined review process committed to achieving project timelines through project management and expertise.
  • Represent Building Division interests at stakeholder meetings.
  • Mediate and resolve escalated file issues and engage multi-disciplinary teams to facilitate resolution.
  • Convey complex, technical information to project stakeholders to facilitate understanding and support informed decision-making.
  • Develop and present business cases, business/operational plans, cost benefit analysis, feasibility studies.
  • Lead management of long-term strategy projects, including developing RFP’s, project charters and project plans, and public engagement sessions.
  • Negotiate partnerships with public, private and not-for-profit entities.
  • Conduct market research, and operational assessments.
  • Lead and manage teams to identify budget requirements, ensure timelines are met and funds managed appropriately.
  • Budget and manage capital accounts.
  • Comply with relevant City policies.

Skills And Qualifications

  • A post secondary degree in the areas of Public Administration, Commerce, Building Sciences, Planning or an MBA is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in developing and analyzing business plans and cases, creating strategic plans, and working in a project management or leadership role.
  • Strong rapport, collaboration and relationship building skills.
  • Ability to think and act strategically and execute at a very detailed level.
  • Sound decision making and problem-solving skills, with an ability to successfully negotiate complex issues.
  • Self Motivated/Proactive and Extraordinarily Organized.
  • Demonstrated leadership in project management and change leadership.
  • Strong research and analytical skills, and a good understanding of metrics and performance measurement.
  • Advanced computer skills, Microsoft Office programs.
  • Primarily office environment. Prolonged exposure to computer keyboards and screens

Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 53.75 - $ 71.67

Hours of Work: 35
