The Club is looking for a Head Cricket Groundskeeper to join our Facilities department. This role will lead the cricket maintenance duties to ensure the safe, efficient, and high-quality upkeep of the Club’s cricket facilities, grounds, and related infrastructure, while maintaining exceptional service standards for members and guests. In addition, they will ensure the safe and efficient operation of the Club’s infrastructure and maintain high service standards for activity-related maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and perform the daily maintenance, preparation, and presentation of the cricket field and square, Croquet Swards, and Club exterior/associated grounds, providing operational direction and hands-on support to team members in a lead hand capacity.
- Work with the Facilities Supervisor to support scheduling and assigning daily tasks to the maintenance team ensuring all tasks are completed to Club standards.
- Work proactively with field consultants to identify maintenance priorities, schedule specialized tasks, and implement expert recommendations for turf care, pitch preparation, and field safety.
- Develop, in close collaboration with cricket square and field consultants, customized daily task lists specific to cricket maintenance.
- Partner with the Facilities Supervisor to communicate all cricket maintenance tasks including but not limited to turf management, pitch setup, equipment checks, and event preparations.
- Coordinate set-up and take-down of cricket elements required for play, including pitch covers, nets, and field equipment.
- Ensure all cricket equipment is well maintained, cleaned, and stored appropriately.
- Plan and execute turf management programs, including mowing, fertilizing, irrigation, and pest control.
- Monitor and maintain cricket field safety, including regular inspections and hazard reporting.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for cricket grounds and equipment.
- Recommend improvements to cricket facilities and equipment to enhance quality and safety.
- Communicate effectively with Facilities Supervisor and other departments regarding cricket maintenance needs and issues.
- Coordinate purchasing of parts and supplies for cricket maintenance in collaboration with the Facilities Supervisor.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and incident reports.
- Complete daily task emails and end-of-shift reporting as required.
- Assists members and guests in a helpful, efficient, friendly, and enthusiastic manner when providing services
Health and Safety
- Responsible for safe use and containment of hazardous goods and materials as per MSDS training
- Completes H&S training as directed by the Club/Facilities Supervisor
- Works in a manner that protects their health and safety, the safety of fellow employees, and members
- Works in compliance with Occupational Health & Safety Act and follows Club health & safety policies and procedures
- Uses personal protective equipment and clothing as directed by the Club
- Reports any workplace hazards and dangers to the Facility Supervisor
- Knows all emergency procedures and being able to respond accordingly. Also assists the Club by reporting any unusual activities or individuals to the Manager on Duty.
Qualifications
- Completion of high school or equivalent required
- Turf Maintenance certified required; other system certifications an asset
- Standard First Aid and CPR/AED certification required
- Driver’s license required
- Must obtain WHMIS/GHS certification, Basics of Supervision safety training, and electrical safety training
- ICC Level 3 Curator Certification, IPM Certification for specialty turf, and Terminator license for specialty turf required
- Minimum five (5) years’ hands-on experience in cricket field and turf maintenance, including pitch preparation, turf management, and equipment operation
- Direct participation in ICC-sanctioned cricket events such as GT20 tournaments and One Day International (ODI) series, with proven ability to meet international standards for field quality and readiness
- Must have customer service experience; leadership experience preferred
- Requires working knowledge of seasonal maintenance of cricket pitch and outfield in collaboration with consultants to promote optimal conditions
- Must have working knowledge of H&S Legislation and records management, Familiarity with health and safety legislation and records management
- Must have cricket specific skills required to analyze current conditions (weather, moisture, grass height, compaction, etc.) and determine steps to prepare pitch & outfield for play per the current schedule
- Must have strong mathematical and problem-solving skills
- Must have basic skills in office equipment operation; must have basic skills in smart phone use as well as MS Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Ability to operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment
- Working level skills in reading and writing to communicate information
