Data Communications Specialist

Our client is seeking a Data Communications Specialist to serve as the technical expert for data communications products and solutions across British Columbia. This role supports sales teams, branches, and customers by ensuring accurate product selection, solution design, and delivery. Your Success Will Be Defined By Your Ability To
- Act as the subject matter expert for company's portfolio, including structured cabling, fiber optics, copper connectivity, racks, patch panels, power distribution, and networking devices
- Provide technical guidance, solution design, and product specifications to internal teams and customers
- Deliver product training to branch staff, sales representatives, and clients
- Stay current with industry standards (BICSI, ANSI/TIA, ISO/IEC) and emerging technologies (PoE, Wi-Fi 6, IoT, data center infrastructure)
- Assist sales representatives in customer meetings by offering technical insights and customized solutions
- Prepare project quotations, bills of materials, and product alternatives
- Engage with engineers, consultants, and contractors
- Participate in vendor-led events, demos, and roadshows
- Work closely with vendors to align on product strategies and technology rollouts
- Provide feedback to the Business Unit Manager on customer needs and market trends
- Support branches in meeting Data Communications sales goals by identifying opportunities and enhancing product knowledge
Your strengths include:
- 3-5 years of experience in Data Communications, structured cabling, or low-voltage systems (distribution, manufacturing, or contracting preferred)
- Strong technical knowledge of copper and fiber cabling systems, connectors, racks, UPS/PDU systems, and basic networking infrastructure
- Familiarity with BICSI practices and industry standards (TIA/EIA, ISO/IEC)
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Self-motivated with a passion for technology and customer engagement
