This role emphasizes providing a welcoming environment, promoting respect for the artworks, and ensuring that visitors follow the museum's guidelines to maintain a safe and enjoyable space for all.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide consistent monitoring of artworks, visitors, staff, and museum property, ensuring their safety from damage
  • Greet and welcome all visitors to MOCA, and be available to answer questions throughout the museum
  • Stay current with the daily schedule of events, informing visitors as needed
  • Enforce security and safety procedures and protocols in all public spaces of the museum
  • Answering visitor questions concerning exhibits, wayfinding, and facilities
  • Become an expert in MOCA’s programmes, the museum building and its place in the Junction Triangle neighbourhood and cultural community
  • When assigned, circulate the museum and support busier floors
  • Detect and respond to potential interference of artwork, report damage or change in condition of spaces/ art objects immediately
  • Ensure visitors are following museum rules
  • Keep the Visitor Services Supervisor up to date on floor activities, so they can complete reports accurately
  • Manage traffic and visitor wayfinding within the museums
  • Provide support during museum events, venue rentals, including weekends and holidays
  • Undertake other duties as assigned by the Visitor Services Supervisor

Skills, Knowledge And Expertise Must-haves

  • Minimum 1–2 years of experience in security, visitor services, or a related role
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Must be able to work regular weekends, evenings, holidays and special events
  • Must have the ability to be both friendly and commanding in communication
  • Excellent observational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to interact effectively with a diverse range of individuals
  • Physically capable of standing and walking for extended periods, as well as responding to emergencies swiftly

Nice-to-haves

  • Conflict resolution/de-escalation and anti-oppression training
  • First aid certification
