##Responsibilities

The Human Resources Assistant will be responsible for implementing human resource records transactions on the Peoplesoft/Oracle HR management information system and auditing transactions which are implemented through automated processes. The incumbent provides information regarding faculty appointment processes, in accordance with the UWOFA collective agreement and Western policies and procedures, compiles and maintains confidential spreadsheets, data and information relating to union membership. The incumbent will act as a resource and provide support and information and guidance related to human resources records administration in compliance with Western policies, procedures, collective agreements and government legislation. The Human Resources Records Administrator will assist clients and HR Information System specialists in the identification, analysis and resolution of issues using a range of criteria and guidelines.

##Qualifications

Education:

  • 3 year Community College Diploma in Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field

Experience:

  • 4 years administrative experience supporting human resources records and transactions; in a unionized enivonrment preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Familiarity with Human Resources principles and practices
  • Knowledge of Western collective agreements and policies impacting staff preferred
  • Familiarity with the Employment Standards Act, and other relevant legislation
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and effectively communicate University guidelines, policies and practices to key stakeholders
  • Communication skills to clearly and effectively interact with all levels of the organization
  • Verbal and written communication skills to translate information into easily understood terms, summarize information, and provide a rationale for action
  • Ability to work in a manner that models best practices in confidentiality standards
  • Ability to apply critical thinking to evaluate information and make appropriate decisions or recommendations
  • Customer service skills with a desire to achieve results in a professional and timely manner
  • Detail-oriented with an ability to function and process information with high levels of accuracy
  • Ability and willingness to stay abreast of technological developments
  • Discretion, tact and maturity to deal with highly confidential subjects or issues
  • Ability to employ a systematic and efficient approach to work
  • Adapts readily and effectively to changing priorities and demands
  • Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and effectively communicate University guidelines, policies and practices to key stakeholders
  • Ability to plan and manage events of various sizes
  • Ability to prioritize and organize a fluctuating work load
  • Proven ability and natural inclination to develop relationships by interacting with people in a professional, respectful and diplomatic manner
  • Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve department goals
  • Familiarity with University policies and procedures preferred
