##Assistant Manager of Facilities

(Exempt – Full Time) Recreation and Culture Department

The Recreation and Culture Department with the City of Chilliwack, a growing and vibrant community of 100,000 located 100 kilometers east of Vancouver, is seeking a dynamic individual to fill the position of Assistant Manager of Facilities.

Are you the one we’re looking for? This role provides leadership in facility operations, maintenance, asset planning, and staff supervision. The successful candidate will be comfortable working with complex building systems, managing unionized staff, and contributing to long-term infrastructure planning while maintaining a strong focus on safety, service delivery, and operational excellence. Working closely with recreation programming staff, the Assistant Manager of Facilities helps ensure facilities effectively support programs, events, and community use.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the operation, maintenance, and lifecycle planning of recreation and civic facilities.

  • Oversee complex building systems including aquatic filtration systems, arena refrigeration plants, HVAC systems, and building automation systems.

  • Ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC, Technical Safety BC, public health, and other regulatory requirements.

  • Assist in the preparation and management of operating and capital budgets.

  • Support long-term asset management and infrastructure planning initiatives.

  • Participate in capital project planning, design review, and facility upgrades.

  • Oversee procurement, tendering, and contract administration for facility services.

  • Provide leadership in staff supervision, recruitment, scheduling, and performance management.

  • Collaborate with recreation programming staff to ensure facilities effectively support program delivery and community service goals.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or Degree in Recreation Facilities Management, Building Management, Engineering Technology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Minimum five (5) years of progressive leadership experience in municipal or complex multi-use facility operations.

  • Experience with public sector procurement and contract management.

  • Technical Safety BC – Refrigeration Safety Awareness certification and RFABC or BCRPA Pool Operator Level 1 (or ability to obtain).
