Utility Operator

Birla Carbon Canada Ltd in Hamilton, Ontario is looking to expand their Operations Department. We are seeking a Utility Operator for our plant who can demonstrate our organizational values of integrity, commitment, passion, seamlessness and speed.

Responsibilities**:**

The successful applicant must be able to perform the following tasks:

  • Re-processing of non-standard product through a continuous process procedure.
  • Check and inspect tank levels
  • Check belts, dryers, conveyors, screens, motors and gear boxes to ensure safe flow of customer product
  • Clean screens, conveyors, magnets, dryers, slabs and product spills
  • Obtain and delivery in-line product samples to the lab
  • Complete required check list
  • Follow lockout/tag out procedures
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements:

  • Post-secondary education in an Engineering Technician program is considered an asset.

  • Forklift and Confined Space certification considered an asset. Training will be provided

  • Experience in a manufacturing or continuous process environment is considered an asset

  • Commitment to safety and the environment.

  • Ability to work in a team oriented environment.

  • Ability to take the initiative and to complete assigned tasks on time.

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

  • Highly flexible, proactive and self-motivated.

  • Strong attention to detail, analytical, troubleshooting skills, and ability to work well under pressure.

  • Ability to work in confined spaces

Work Conditions/Schedule:

  • Able to operate basic mechanical tools safety and efficiently.

  • Able to work in outdoor weather conditions and ability to climb several flights of stairs (work at heights) on a regular basis.

  • Continental rotating shift work (ie, 2, 2, 3); including alternating weekends, nights (2-weeks days/2-weeks nights) and holidays.

  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.

  • Overtime as required
