Senior Accountant
Reports to
VP of Finance
Job Summary
The Senior Accountant, under the direction of the VP of Finance, will primarily be responsible for providing general counsel, advice, and guidance on business and financial matters as required. Advise on the content and accuracy of financial reporting. The Senior Accountant must have a degree or diploma in business, finance, accounting, or a related field and three years of experience in the financial industry.
Job Duties
As the Senior Accountant for the Joseph Transportation Group, you'll play a pivotal role with diverse responsibilities, as outlined below. Please note that this list is not exhaustive:
- AP, collect and process all invoices, EFT/Wire payments, and cheque runs.
- Perform monthly vendor reconciliations.
- Prepare credit cards, accruals, and prepaid entries.
- Review and process expense reports for staff.
- Prepare various bank, accruals, prepaid and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Maintain and reconcile various leasing agreements and fixed asset schedules.
- Prepare monthly HST filings and other government remittances as required.
- Assist with month-end processes.
- Assist in the preparation of quarterly financial statements.
- Assist with year-end working paper preparation.

Job Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of AP, AR, or general bookkeeping experience.
- An undergraduate degree with a major in accounting or finance is required.
- Achieved or enrolled and working toward a CPA designation would be an asset.
- Strong computer literacy with advanced skills in Excel.
- Demonstrated ability to manipulate large volumes of data would be an asset.
- Attention to detail and exceptional planning and organizational skills.
- Excellent oral and written English communication skills.
- Understands the importance of ‘pitching in’ and that no job is too small.
- A can-do attitude.
- Results-oriented and critical thinking – a high sense of ownership is necessary.
- Ability to take initiative, embrace challenges and thrive in an ever-evolving workplace.
