Description: The Assistant Head Nurse (AHN) provides effective clinical leadership, functional supervision and, as needed, performs front line Registered Nursing duties. The AHN promotes and models leadership competencies by demonstrating good judgement and critical thinking skills, and developing and maintaining strong nursing practice in the designated scope of practice. The AHN fosters team effectiveness, demonstrating excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, communicating effectively and seeking to resolve staff issues. The AHN develops a supportive environment for multidisciplinary learning. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the UNA Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications:
Required Qualifications: Graduate of a Registered Nurse program or recognized equivalent required. Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) or College of Registered Psychiatric Nurse of Alberta (CRPNA) is required. Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Active registration as a Registered Nurse, and member in good standing with CRNA. Post secondary degree in Nursing (BN, BScN). Completion of a Peri-operative nursing course/certificate. Minimum of 3 years recent experience working in a high acuity OR. Experience to be current, or at most, within the last year. Minimum 2 years of Leadership experience as an AHN, Team Leader, Charge Nurse or CNE. Experience to be current, or at most, within the last year. Strong organizational and leadership skills, with proven ability in decision-making, coaching, teaching, and building confidence in others. Physically capable of standing and walking for extended periods of time, performing repetitive movements throughout the shift, lifting up to 20 lbs, and pushing/pulling up to 50 lbs of force. Advanced computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Office, Powerpoint & Connect Care.
Preferred Qualifications:
Canadian Nursing Association (CNA) certification – CPN(C), Accredited certification in Peri-operative Nursing, Master’s degree in Nursing, leadership or healthcare related field.
