Job Description:
Location: 2 days per week in office (downtown Toronto)

We are searching for a talented candidate who is looking to grow their leadership, compliance and testing knowledge and experience. The Insurance Review Manager role provides the opportunity to work with multiple third-party distribution partners and advisors. In this role, the incumbent will build long-lasting, mutually beneficial relationships while advancing and enhancing our Insurance Review Program from a partnering and technical perspective. The incumbent will perform reviews of third-party distributors; National Accounts and Managing General Agents (MGA), on their screening, monitoring, reporting and investigating of advisors they contract. The role also includes selecting and auditing of third-party advisors who distribute Sun Life products.
Reporting to the Director, Insurance Oversight Programs, the Insurance Review Manager will assist with the ongoing management and maintenance of the Insurance Review Program (“the Program”) for Sun Life Canada. Other accountabilities may include working closely with team members from Business Governance and Controls, Business Unit Compliance Officers and their teams, Corporate Compliance and other Control Functions.
What will you do?
- Plan and conduct audits of MGAs and National Accounts, audit advisors in our third-party distribution channel
- Complete risk-based Advisor Desk Reviews
- Develop Annual Compliance Audit Plans and schedules
- Perform planning, scoping and sampling activities, execute steps to evaluate compliance with insurance rules and regulations
- Review and assess key compliance processes and controls of distribution firms
- Execute testing; including documenting, assessing and reporting testing results
- Identify, communicate and escalate issues as appropriate, including ensuring that corrective action plans adequately address risk and are completed on time
- Write clear and concise compliance testing reports and other documents summarizing level of risk, scope, findings and recommendations
- Track issues remediation
- Continuous assessment of the Insurance Review Program for trends and opportunities for improvement of risk management, program effectiveness and technical enhancements
- Perform ongoing market conduct/on-site assessment reviews
- Maintain effective working relationships with compliance representatives and line management
- Work on several projects at any one time with different individuals
What do you need to succeed?
- Undergraduate degree in related field is required
- A minimum of 5-7 years’ experience in regulatory compliance operational/business controls testing or internal auditing within the financial services/insurance sector
- Experience executing audits of insurance advisors is an asset
- Knowledgeable on insurance regulatory requirements and Canadian Life & Health Industry Association (CLHIA) Guidelines
- Excellent knowledge of risks, controls and testing methodology
- Working knowledge of MGA/NA Firm audit procedures, planning, and test/sampling methods
- Ability to gather and analyze facts to prepare and present concise findings in a partnering manner
- A recognized professional accounting designation (e.g. CPA/CA, CIA, CPA/CMA, and CPA/CGA) is an asset
- Ability to translate legislation and regulations into business impacts, compliance elements and regulatory risks
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements and securities laws applicable to financial institutions
- Experience in data analytics is an asset
- As this position is posted in several locations, we specify that bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only for the frequent interactions with English and French-speaking colleagues or internal partners across Canada or worldwide.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.
