SFU is currently undertaking a significant transformation in its varsity sport model. Beginning in the 2027–28 season, SFU will transition to compete in Canada West within U SPORTS, aligning the university with the Canadian interuniversity sport system. This transition represents an important strategic shift, strengthening regional rivalries, enhancing student-athlete experience, and positioning SFU for long-term success within the national landscape. As part of this transition, SFU is expanding its varsity sport offerings to meet conference membership requirements and support strategic growth. This includes the introduction of a Men’s Volleyball program, complementing the university’s established women’s program and further strengthening SFU’s presence in one of Canada’s most competitive university sports. About the Role SFU Athletics and Recreation is seeking a visionary and collaborative Head Coach for Men’s Volleyball to lead the development of this new program. The successful candidate will play a key role in building a competitive team, establishing a strong program culture, recruiting high-calibre student-athletes, and contributing to the broader success of SFU Athletics within Canada West and U SPORTS. The successful candidate will be is under the direct supervision of the Director, Athletics. The candidate will be highly motivated, display effective and positive leadership, and have superior supervision skills in directing and maintaining a successful and competitive volleyball program at SFU. The role involves leading the development of the SFU men's volleyball program, aligning its objectives with the department's goals. Building strong relationships with department staff, university faculties, clubs, communities, high schools, boosters, and alumni is essential. The position includes providing guidance to student-athletes to help them reach their full academic and athletic potential. It requires adherence to Simon Fraser University's policies, procedures, and best practices. Ensuring the health, safety, integrity, and educational welfare of student-athletes is a key responsibility. The role also involves assisting in the overall growth and promotion of the SFU men's volleyball program. Collaboration with various stakeholders and fostering a positive environment is critical for success. Additionally, contributing to the program's long-term success and visibility is expected. Full Job Description Qualifications Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree preferred. 5 years coaching experience with high-performance athletes aged 16 years and over (i.e. Provincial, National, University/College) with an excellent win/loss record (or an equivalent combination of education and training experience). Proven track record of volleyball coaching success. Possess high levels of integrity. Ability to work well with a wide range of situations and personalities while maintaining the decorum of a representative of the University. Excellent organizational, time management, fiscal management and interpersonal skills. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
