We are currently seeking a Faculty Instructor – Indigenous Studies to deliver degree-level Indigenous Studies coursework, primarily within the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, and possibly as an elective in other disciplines.
The Faculty Instructor – Indigenous Studies will be responsible for delivering degree-level instruction that supports students’ development in this area.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong disciplinary expertise in Indigenous Studies and the ability to situate Indigenous knowledge systems, histories, and contemporary issues within a post-secondary academic framework.
Oulton College strongly encourages applications from Indigenous candidates and from individuals with demonstrated experience working respectfully with Indigenous communities and knowledge holders.
This course may be taught in person or online, or a hybrid combination of both. Start date: May 2026.
Academic Responsibilities
- Deliver degree-level Indigenous Studies courses grounded in established scholarship and Indigenous ways of knowing
- Implement course learning outcomes, assessments, and instructional activities appropriate to undergraduate degree standards
- Facilitate learning that supports:
o Critical analysis of Indigenous histories, contemporary issues, and policy frameworks
o Scholarly inquiry and evidence-based reasoning
o Ethical and culturally respectful engagement with Indigenous perspectives
- Maintain academic records and grading practices consistent with institutional requirements
- Participate in curriculum review and continuous improvement to ensure alignment
- Collaborate with program leadership and faculty to support student success and academic quality assurance.
###Requirements
- Master’s degree or PhD in Indigenous Studies or a closely related discipline
- Demonstrated expertise in Indigenous histories, cultures, and contemporary issues in Canada
- Experience teaching at the post-secondary level, with demonstrated ability to teach degree-level learners is a strong asset
- Strong understanding of learning outcomes, assessment design, and academic standards appropriate to undergraduate education
- Excellent communication, organization, and instructional skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Indigenous identity (First Nations, Métis, or Inuit)
- Experience teaching Indigenous Studies within health, nursing, or human services programs
- Familiarity with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action and decolonizing pedagogies within higher education.
