Job Description POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY: The Maintenance Coordinator is responsible for performing a variety of work including the maintenance and repair of buildings and grounds.
Accountabilities
- Give oversight, in consultation with the Operations Coordinator/Camp Director, to all preventative maintenance and upgrading of the facility, including assuming responsibility for minor renovations and repair projects.
- Oversee the work of subcontractors handling more complex renovation or repair products, ensuring quality workmanship and compliance with project parameters.
- Be aware of and perform all maintenance and groundskeeping needed to keep the camp “physically fit” and appealing, including all buildings, plants, grass, sewer, water, etc.
- Contribute to the safety of staff and campers (e.g., clear fire exits, clean spillage; no obstacles inside/outside the building, litter pick up etc.)
- To coordinate preventative maintenance for all camp vehicles and equipment.
- To ensure the buildings and grounds are ready for the arrival of all camps.
- To manage the day-to-day operation of the water treatment facilities.
- Perform all duties in a safe manner, using appropriate personal protective equipment when required.
- To assist in the purchasing and receipt of maintenance goods and materials required at the camp, being mindful of established spending limits.
- Maintain the in-ground swimming pool to ensure compliance with local health and safety regulations.
- Test and balance pool water chemistry (chlorine, pH, alkalinity, etc.).
- Inspect and maintain pool pumps, filters, heaters, and related equipment.
- May also be required to provide general program support as directed.
General Accountabilities
- Work within the total camping program and cooperate with other staff members.
- Be familiar with all procedures and resources.
- Maintain a responsible level of maturity and leadership.
- Participate in camp cleanup at the end of each camp.
- Follow and uphold all safety and security rules and procedures.
- Ensure the highest standard of health and safety for all campers, volunteers, and staff.
- Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
- Maintain and support the purpose of Atlantic Camping Ministries through all interactions.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Working Conditions
- This position does have some heavy lifting of activity equipment up to 50 lbs., with assistance from another team member.
- This role may also require a uniform and/or be required to wear Personal Protective equipment (PPE).
- This job requires reaching, bending, and stooping frequently, working in a standing position for long periods of time.
- Some travel is required using camp program vehicle to pick up supplies.
Education, Experience, Qualifications, Certifications, Skills Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
- Completed High School.
- An original copy of current driver’s abstract for review and verification that it is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
- WHIMIS
- Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Experience And Knowledge Requirements
- Have three years related construction/maintenance experience, familiarity with relevant equipment and knowledge of machinery.
- Some experience supervising and assigning work to staff and monitoring their performance.
Skills And Capabilities
- Able to take responsibility for personal health and safety in accordance with the OH&S Act.
- Mindful of health regulations as established by the Department of Health.
- Have the ability to operate external grounds maintenance equipment and tools and be able to do bending, twisting and lifting.
- Be able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
- Ability to maintain information in confidence and exercise good judgement.
- Strong leadership, planning and organizational skills with the ability to adapt to change.
- Customer service-oriented mindset.
- Self-motivated and disciplined.
- Ability to learn quickly and use initiative.
- Treat the property of The Salvation Army with due care and caution.
- Ability to work independently and participate as an active and responsible team member.

Compensation The target hiring range for this position is $16.50 to $18.59 with a maximum of $22.31.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
