In accordance with the Administrative and Professional Officer Agreement, this position has a comprehensive benefits package and an annual salary range of $78,382 - $130,629.
Location - This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person work at North Campus, Edmonton.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Manager, Project Delivery, the Senior Project Manager provides strategic leadership and expert project management to deliver complex, high-impact initiatives aligned with the University’s strategic priorities. Operating within the Enterprise Project Management Office (EPMO), this role ensures that enterprise-wide projects are planned, executed, and delivered on time, within scope, and within budget, while maintaining alignment with institutional goals and governance frameworks.
The Senior Project Manager partners with executive sponsors, deans, associate vice-presidents, vice-provosts and other senior stakeholders to translate strategic objectives into actionable project plans and measurable outcomes.
The Office of the Vice-President, University Services, Operations and Finance provides the operational foundation that supports the University of Alberta’s academic and research mission. This role leads the delivery of integrated services that foster a thriving, high-performing university environment.
The Vice-President oversees the development and management of campus infrastructure, secure and sustainable IT systems, strategic human resources, financial stewardship and procurement services. The portfolio emphasizes service excellence, operational efficiency and continuous improvement to meet institutional goals.
Key departments reporting to this portfolio include Campus Services; Finance, Planning and Procurement; Human Resources, Health, Safety and Environment; Information Services and Technology; Infrastructure Planning, Development and Partnerships; Internal Audit and Enterprise Risk Management; Shared Services; Strategic Transformation and Delivery; and Utilities and Operations.

Enterprise-Level Project Management: Direct the entire lifecycle of large-scale, high-visibility, and cross-functional projects ($1M–$10M value) by defining scope, managing budgets/forecasts, overseeing resource allocation, and ensuring timely, standard-compliant closure.

Ensure Strategic Portfolio Alignment: Collaborate with EPMO leadership to align individual project outcomes with the University's strategic plan and enterprise portfolio priorities, including identifying, escalating, and resolving risks, dependencies, and resource conflicts across initiatives.

Manage Complex Stakeholder & Governance Relationships: Engage regularly with senior leaders (e.g., VPs, Deans) and diverse stakeholder groups (faculty, staff, students) to facilitate decision-making, manage expectations, and drive consensus in a shared governance environment.

Execute Change Management and Adoption: Plan and lead change management initiatives to ensure the successful adoption of new processes or technologies resulting from projects, requiring strong communication and collaboration skills across all organizational levels.

Provide Executive-Level Reporting and Communication: Develop and deliver high-level briefings, progress reports, and performance metrics to the EPMO Director, institutional governance committees, and senior/executive leadership to inform decision-making.

Mentor and Build EPMO Capability: Coach and mentor Project Managers and Coordinators within the EPMO, contributing to the continuous improvement of project management methodologies and fostering a culture of project excellence and accountability throughout the University.

Bachelor’s degree or diploma in business administration, public administration, information technology, project management or a related field. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

8–10 years of progressive project management experience, including large-scale, multi-stakeholder projects.

Demonstrated success managing budgets, schedules, and resources in a complex, matrixed organization.

Advanced skills in project planning, risk management, and performance measurement.

Strong business acumen with the ability to link project outcomes to institutional strategy.

Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills.

Ability to navigate complex governance structures and competing priorities.

Proficiency with project management and collaboration tools (e.g., MS Project, Smartsheet, Jira, SharePoint).

Demonstrated success in the execution of project management methodologies (e.g. Agile, Waterfall, Scrum, etc).

Experience working with various Project Management tools and software (e.g. Visio, Lucidchart, Project, etc).

Experience in higher education or a public-sector environment is preferred.
Project Management Professional (PMP) and/or PRINCE2 certification is considered an asset.
