Job Summary

Student Affairs is a collection of integrated units that collaborates with faculty, staff and students to enhance the student experience. We promote an inclusive, holistic and student-centric approach to learning and academic success and act as a professional resource in the delivery of evidence-based student enrolment, wellness, development and academic support programs and services. Reporting to the Director, Residence Life, the Residence Life Manager plays an integral role in supporting the institutional priority of ensuring the safety, health and wellbeing of students living in residence. The incumbent will supervise a team of diverse student leaders and lead the departmental student engagement objectives for students living in residence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Acts a part of a team that provides 24/7 front line support to approximately 2400 students on a rotating schedule.

  • Provide mental health support and address the associated complexity of the issues facing our student population, incidents of sexualized violence, and alcohol and substance use.

  • Supervise and work to create a transformative leadership experience for over 150 student leaders who live in residence and support the student community at large, including recruitment, selection, on-boarding, training, and performance management.

  • Support students’ success and enhance the academic mission through oversight of student engagement and community building activities in residence.

  • Organize and implement programs, events, and activities that support the goals and objectives of Residence Life and Student Affairs during important and high-risk time periods throughout the academic timetable.

  • Ensure students’ compliance to university policy and procedures, and as required participate in the administration of the Residence Community Living Guide and the Residence Code of Conduct.

Note

This is a live-in position. The incumbent is required to live in an assigned fully-furnished, pet friendly apartment within our residence system.

This position is required to be a visible member of the residence community and as such will require flexible working hours to attend evening and weekend events, and be present in the buildings during critical times of risk throughout the academic year.

Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.

Required Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant field (social work, health promotion, education, etc.) with of two to five years’ experience working in a postsecondary environment (or an equivalent combination of training and experience).

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, specific to conflictual situations, policy management and legal considerations.

  • Experience in managing sensitive and confidential information.

  • Proven ability to lead, coach, and supervise student staff.

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Assets

  • Master’s degree.

  • Experience working in student affairs and/or residence life.

  • Experience in managing a housing residence community or an intentional learning community.

  • Experience in crisis response and providing mental health support.
