Position Overview:
InnovOak School has an immediate need for a part-time Music teacher to teach three elementary and middle school classes (Grades 2–8) across the Lower and Middle School. This role is scheduled for 6 periods per week, with flexible scheduling across two days for the right candidate. This position would be well suited to certified teachers, retired educators, part-time instructors, or qualified musicians with a passion for working with children in a school setting.
This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate, aspiring teacher with a strong musical background who is eager to help shape a growing program. We are seeking someone excited to move beyond minimum curriculum expectations and help us build a performance culture that celebrates music and the arts within the school.
Key Responsibilities:

Deliver engaging and structured music instruction to Grades 2–8, using Ontario Curriculum as a base while enriching the program with performance-based opportunities
-
Design age-appropriate music lessons that support musical literacy, vocal development, instrumental exploration, rhythm work, and performance readiness
-
Help foster a positive classroom climate by building musical confidence, offering opportunities for group performance, and supporting students' personal expression through music
-
Collaborate with staff to plan school-wide music events, informal showcases, or assemblies that bring the school community together through music
-
Maintain a well-supervised and calm classroom environment, using common-sense routines and high expectations for focus and participation
-
Organize and post unit plans, success criteria, and assessment rubrics in accordance with Growing Success
-
Keep student gradebooks current in the school LMS, post work samples, and upload relevant music tasks for inspection readiness
-
Provide feedback to students and families that is timely, clear, and grounded in observed progress
-
Supervise students responsibly during transitions and ensure music sessions are well-integrated into the school day
-
Positively contribute to a school culture that values the arts, student voice, and collaborative learning
What We Are Looking For:
-
A warm and professional instructor who understands the role of music in personal growth, academic development, and school culture
-
Strong musical background with the ability to introduce voice, brass, percussion, and basic theory in a structured, joyful way
-
Interest in building a program that may eventually include group performance, music camps, or extra-curricular ensembles
-
Experience with Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) materials, lesson structures, or assessments is considered an asset
-
Willingness to integrate cross-curricular ideas and student wellness themes into music learning
-
Ability to maintain structure and clarity while still allowing for exploration and creativity in the classroom
Qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Music, Music Education, or a related field; Bachelor of Education preferred
-
Experience teaching music to children or leading musical instruction in a formal or informal setting
-
Familiarity with the Ontario Arts Curriculum and Growing Success
-
Formal music training, including RCM certification or comparable background, is preferred but not required
-
Fluency in English and strong communication skills
-
Canadian citizenship or permanent residency is required
Additional Information:
-
This role is scheduled for 6 periods per week, typically across two mornings or afternoons
-
Flexibility is available for candidates with other teaching, music studio, or professional commitments
-
There may be an opportunity to teach AMU1O (Grade 9 Music) from September to December for the right candidate (separate posting)
-
Preference will be given to candidates who have experience preparing students for performance or musical examinations
-
All candidates must provide a current Vulnerable Sector Check and three references
-
