What will you be doing!

• Using the structure of CNL’s Engineering Change Control procedure, creating electrical engineering designs for nuclear and non-nuclear systems at CRL.
• Investigating, defining and documenting design requirements.
• Creating, delegating, and overseeing the written and creation of design deliverables.
• Identifying replacement equipment and proposing alternatives/improvements to existing equipment and/or process to optimize equipment performance.
• Providing technical support to field work, then close out the job; Close-outs include drawings, preventative maintenance routines, emergency procedures, and Avantis updates.
• Supporting electrical maintenance.
• Reviewing maintenance planning packages for conformance to design, applicable standards and industry best practice.
• Performing power systems studies to ensure the safety of workers.
• Providing technical support for field work.
• Being a Subject matter expert for the review of electrical engineering design deliverables.
• Reviewing the work of section staff for code compliance, accuracy, and adherence to engineering best practices.
• Reviewing electrical engineering deliverables by third parties.
• Ensuring preventative maintenance routines are identified.
• Investigating and reporting on system failures and emergent events.
• Performing field walkdown, research drawings and analyzing laboratory results to determine and report the nature and causes of failure.
• Developing and documenting plans for resolutions.
• Supporting maintainers as a technical resource.
• Providing follow-up support to implement the recommendation.
• Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What We Are Looking For

• Education

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from a university of recognized standing.

• Eligible to be licensed as a professional engineer in the Province of Ontario upon completion of 48 months of engineering experience.

• Experience

• New Grad to 5 years of experience in Electrical engineering in a regulated (nuclear) or industrial setting.

• Related working experience in electrical design or electrical maintenance is an asset.

• Experience in electrical maintenance planning, design, commissioning and/or operations experience in a plant or nuclear operating environment would be an asset.

• Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings for electrical systems.

• Skilled in performing typical calculations for electrical systems design and analysis.

• Understanding of the function of electrical systems and components found in industrial settings.

• Ability to work in a team environment, maintain a clear focus on team goals, and establish good rapport with groups and individuals of many diverse professions is required.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Knowledge of electrical installation and safety standards applicable to Canadian and Ontario electrical installations and Canadian nuclear facilities (Latest edition of Canadian Electrical Code C22.1, Control of Hazardous Energy (CSA Z460) and Workplace Electrical Safety (CSA Z462)).

• Ability to understand industry safety regulations (Canada Labour Code), standards and quality assurance (ISO 9001) for nuclear and industrial settings.

• Knowledge of CNL’s operations, maintenance and projects an asset.

• Knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management System software would be an asset.

• Security Clearance Eligibility Required

• Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”

Working Conditions

• Working schedule: Five (5) days per week, seven and a half (7.5) hours per day for a thirty-seven and a half (37.5) hour work week.
• This position is part of the CRPEG and is governed by the terms and conditions outlined in the CRPEG Collective Agreement. As a member of this bargaining unit, you’ll benefit from clear expectations around hours of work, wages, vacation, and other conditions that support a fair and consistent working environment.
• 80% expected to be on site at Chalk River Laboratories, with an estimated 20% being field activities.
• The environment demands high vigilance to alarms, lights, and signals as a safety requirement.
