System Engineer
About the role
Join our Engineering team as a Systems Engineer focused on Airworthiness and certification. In this role, you’ll work closely with development teams to define certification strategies, coordinate with aviation authorities, and ensure designs meet applicable regulations. You’ll be involved throughout the lifecycle, from classifying design changes and preparing certification data packages to supporting reviews, tracking compliance, and guiding teams on requirements.
This is ideal for someone who understands both the technical and regulatory sides of aircraft systems and can keep complex certification efforts on track. In this role you will:
Prepare certification plans and basis of certification for assigned project(s) in collaboration with the project development teams Coordinate certification with the airworthiness authority/national aviation authority Prepare and submit certification data package to the airworthiness authority for approval Assess the major/minor classification of a design change to an aeronautical product Plan, coordinate, and liaise with all internal departments for certification activities Participate in internal/external design reviews and peer reviews of system documentation (plans, specifications, test procedures, technical manuals, etc.) to ensure compliance with the applicable airworthiness rules and standards Track compliance program progress to ensure findings of compliance are completed on schedule Review and approve field change orders, service bulletins, etc. Provide technical guidance to the development team in all aspects of certification requirements Coordinate with manufacturing to ensure production and repair & overall are compliant with the applicable airworthiness rules and standards Prepare airworthiness and aircraft installation design related documentation for submission
Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in one of the following disciplines: Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering Significant experience in aircraft maintenance, modification, certification, and test Ability to read electrical, mechanical, and installation engineering drawings Integration and testing activities associated with aircraft installation design Detailed knowledge of airworthiness concepts and standards Detailed knowledge of DND/CF Airworthiness Program and/or civil airworthiness regulatory programs Experience working with or familiarity with AI/ML models is preferred. Ability to coordinate engineering tasks within an integrated product team (IPT) Desired Qualifications Successful completion of a national aviation authority recognized Aircraft Certification Course Experience with certification of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) Defence or Aerospace experience
Security It is a requirement that General Dynamics Mission Systems-Canada be registered with the Canadian Controlled Goods program and that all of its workforce be security assessed. Successful applicants must meet all applicable security requirements, including but not limited to the ability to obtain and maintain a Canadian government security clearance. Applicants may be required to meet additional security requirements in order to gain access to technical data, classified areas or information that is subject to international regulations. You must be eligible to work in Canada.
