About the role

Be the Spark that drives meaningful community impact. The YMCA of Oakville is committed to delivering programs that align with our Strategic Plan and advance our mission. As a Supervisor within the Community Outreach department, you will oversee the operations of youth programs for ages 6–17, ensuring they are engaging, high-quality, and mission-aligned. This leadership role also involves supporting staff development and working alongside the Manager to build strong, effective community partnerships.

Location: Peter Gilgan Family YMCA, 410 Rebecca Street, Oakville

Work Schedule: Full time position, 35 hours a week with flexibility required for evening and weekend shifts

Responsibilities

Program Delivery & Oversight

  • Support the planning, coordination, and execution of community outreach programs.
  • Ensure programs align with organizational goals (e.g., equity, inclusion, youth engagement).
  • Monitor program quality and consistency across various sites and initiatives.

Staff Supervision & Support

  • Supervise and coach frontline outreach staff, volunteers, and part-time employees.
  • Provide training, mentorship, and regular feedback to ensure staff feel supported and prepared.
  • Manage scheduling, conduct performance check-ins, and address day-to-day staff concerns.

Community Engagement & Partnerships

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with community partners, schools, and local organizations.
  • Represent the YMCA at community meetings, events, and outreach activities.
  • Identify emerging needs and explore opportunities for collaboration.

Administration & Reporting

  • Track attendance, participation, and outcomes of outreach initiatives.
  • Assist with data collection, reporting, and grant/funding documentation.
  • Support budget monitoring (e.g., program supplies, staffing hours).

Communication & Coordination

  • Act as a liaison between frontline staff and the Community Outreach Manager.
  • Communicate updates, policy changes, and organizational priorities to the team.
  • Help resolve issues promptly to ensure smooth program operations.

Leadership & Development

  • Model professionalism and community-focused service.
  • Contribute ideas for program growth and innovation.
  • Foster an inclusive, welcoming, and supportive environment for staff and participants.

Requirements

  • Diploma or degree in Social Work, Child and Youth Worker, Psychology, or Community Development (or a related field)
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience working in community-based or youth-serving programs
  • Experience in staff supervision, coaching, and/or facilitating workshops
  • Strong planning, organizational, and coordination skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer applications
  • Ability to build positive relationships with diverse stakeholders
  • Clear Police Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (required prior to start date)
