As the Leader, Track, you will manage and oversee the successful execution of all track-related construction activities for the Green Line LRT - SE Project. This role is accountable for ensuring that track works, including rail installation, ballasting, tie placement, special trackwork, and guideway integration are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with engineering standards and regulatory requirements.

Reporting to the Manager, Systems/Track, you will act as a key point of contact between the City, the Delivery Partner, designer, contractors, and internal/external partners. Through proactive coordination, technical oversight, and risk management, you will ensure delivery of a safe, reliable, and high performing track system that supports long-term transit operations.

Primary duties include:

  • Lead and manage all track and guideway construction activities, including at grade and elevated track systems, special trackwork, switches, crossings, and rail installation.
  • Oversee procurement, tendering, and contract administration for track related construction and professional services packages.
  • Monitor budgets, schedules, risks, and performance indicators, and develop mitigation strategies to address cost, schedule, and technical risks.
  • Provide technical oversight and support for the review of designs, specifications, and construction methodologies.
  • Ensure compliance with City of Calgary standards, APEGA requirements, safety legislation, and applicable codes and regulations.
  • Coordinate interfaces with the Delivery Partner, contractors, utility providers, regulatory agencies, and internal City business units.
  • Manage contractor and Delivery Partner performance to ensure adherence to quality, safety, and contractual requirements.
  • Support commissioning and handover of completed track infrastructure.
  • Lead, mentor, and support the development of project team members, fostering a collaborative, safety focused, and high-performance culture.
  • Prepare reports, dashboards, briefings, and updates for senior leadership and project partners.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Civil Engineering, construction management, or a related field and at least 7 years of relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P. Eng. designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work.   • At least 3 years of experience in projects involving LRT or heavy civil work.
  • Experience in risk management and quality control, and a thorough understanding of project management processes and methodologies.
  • Proven track record of delivering large-scale infrastructure projects, with experience in project planning, design, and delivery.
  • Strong understanding of Rail & Transit, infrastructure integration, with a passion for creating cohesive and functional city environments.

Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week.

Days of work: This position works a 5-day work week with 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
