We are currently accepting applications for onsite animal care volunteer positions. Needed: Wildlife Animal Care Onsite Volunteer
Organization: Heaven's Wildlife Rescue Rehabiliation & Education Centre
Location: Oil Springs, near Sarnia, Ontario
Housing: free-of-charge onsite accommodations (see below)
- Start dates - April 15th to May 15th, 2026
- End Dates - Aug 15th to Aug 31st
- Extended End dates: Oct 15th to Oct 30th
- Time periods: 2 to 7-month periods available.
- Stipend: $75 per week
- Application deadline: March 15th, 2026 (Positions will be filled as we interview applicants. There is no guarantee there will be positions left by March 15th. Volunteers with longer volunteer periods will be chosen first)
- Volunteer Duration: All intern positions are voluntary and full-time. Position duration varies from a minimum of 1 month up to a maximum of 7 months. Applicants who desire longer volunteer periods will be considered first. The work schedule is 5 days per week, 45-50 hours per week, (usually 9 to 10hr days). The schedule depends on the needs of wildlife patients and is rotating and includes days, evenings, split shifts, and weekends.
Animal Care Volunteers Our volunteers learn a variety of wildlife rehabilitation skills and techniques. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to: patient admissions, assisting with species examinations, species-specific diet preparations, feeding orphaned babies, gavage feeding, indoor cage and outdoor enclosure cleaning, medication administration, wound management, and assisting with turtle egg harvesting and incubating. (depending on admissions) grounds maintenance such as grass cutting, weed wiping, painting, cleaning, dishes, laundry
The Wildlife We Rehabilitate Are Raccoon, fox, bat, skunk, squirrel, opossum, mink, weasel, flying squirrel, cottontail, groundhog, chipmunk, muskrat, coyote, turtles, etc.
Accommodations We provide free-of-charge onsite accommodations in a shared house with other volunteers, you will have access to kitchen, bathroom, and laundry facilities. WiFi is also available. Please state on your application whether or not you would like to be considered for accommodations.
Qualifications
- At least 18 years of age
- Commitment to the length of the volunteer term
- Must be dedicated and reliable.
- A valid driver’s license is an asset
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Must commit to working hours according to the needs of our wildlife patients.
- Must be team-oriented and work well with others.
- Must have or be willing to get rabies vaccinations and a titre prior to starting. (This process takes 5 to 9 weeks)
