About the role
Overview
As part of the multi-disciplinary team the Unit Clerk is responsible for the facilitation of patient flow through the Emergency Department and acts as a liaison to staff, patients, their families and the public; the incumbent is professional, courteous and displays the values of the organization during all interactions while working collaboratively with the clinic and interdisciplinary staff.
Education

Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent educational preparation.

Training related to office administration/office coordination.

Knowledge of medical terminology required.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team in an extremely diverse, fast paced environment.
- Proven innovation in problem solving skills and critical thinking.
- Demonstrated interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
- Professional telephone etiquette is mandatory.
- Expert in the use of Powerchart, ANSOS, ESM, SAP/SRM, Word and Excel.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
- Excellent computer and keyboarding skills.
- Demonstrated embodiment of MGH core service standards and values as demonstrated through tact, diplomacy and discretion in matters that relate to patients, staff and hospital affairs.
- Demonstrated ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Demonstrated ability to be receptive to instructions/direction.
- Able to work independently as well as work in a team environment.
- Excellent organization skills required.
- Experience coordinating patient bookings appointments required.
- Chart and file management.
- Demonstrated ability to work closely with patients, to provide patient focused care.
- Excellent work and attendance record required.
