About the role

We are SLR Consulting (Canada), a 600+ team of advisory, environmental/engineering, and regulatory professionals across 20+ office locations in Canada. We deliver environmental and sustainability services to our clients through the integration of over 30 advisory, technical environmental, and engineering disciplines to help clients address some of their most complex challenges around sustainability. As our new Environmental Coordinator , you will play an important role on a team whose work is essential to achieving this goal.

You will be responsible for monitoring regulatory compliance, coordinating program updates, preparing reports, and collaborating with contractors, field staff, and internal teams to ensure environmental standards are met. This role will involve full-time commitment and take place at a local refinery facility (5 days per week), based out of Prince George. The position includes both office and field components, so the ideal candidate will be physically capable of performing field tasks, comfortable working in an industrial processing environment, and highly safety conscious.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor compliance with various applicable regulations, such as phases 1 and 2 of the federal reduction in the release of volatile organic compounds regulations, which may include development and coordination of compliance programs, record keeping and reporting.
  • Coordinate general and hazardous waste programs including waste stream tracking, disposal coordination and preparation of hazardous waste manifests.
  • Conduct internal compliance audits, QA/QC program checks, review schedules, attending meetings, advise on progress and prepare applicable reports for various environmental programs including leak detection and repair, fenceline monitoring, odour management and effluent discharge.
  • Coordinate and lead meetings with contractors, field technicians and project coordinators.
  • Prepare submissions for federal and provincial governments.
  • Other duties as requested by the site Environmental Engineer.

  • The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $80,000. Final agreed upon compensation will be commensurate with individual education, professional designation, experience, internal parity, and location.

Qualifications/Education/Memberships

  • This is a full-time secondment role based in Prince George, requiring on-site presence 5 days per week (non-negotiable).
  • Post-secondary degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related discipline; with preference for those registered or eligible for registration with EGBC.
  • Ideally 2–5 years of experience in environmental regulatory reporting and compliance-related work
  • Proven experience managing environmental compliance programs, ideally within petroleum, waste management, or related industries.
  • Familiarity with federal and provincial regulations, including phase 1 and 2 and of the federal reduction in the release of volatile organic compounds.
  • TDG (Transportation of Dangerous Goods) certification or willingness to obtain, along with other certifications such as First Aid and H2S Alive.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple programs simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in data gathering, analysis, and compliance reporting.
  • Effective communication skills for working with contractors, technicians, and internal teams.
  • Ability to lead meetings and drive program improvements.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to continuous improvement and regulatory compliance
