The Medical Services Branch of the Ministry of Health is seeking a dynamic, motivated individual with exceptional analytical and interpersonal skills to provide data analysis, research, planning, development, implementation, and evaluation related to physician resource planning, physician compensation, and other programs administered by the Branch.
Through research and data analysis, the position provides analysis and advice on a wide range of policies and programs affecting the provision of provincial health services and initiatives administered by the Ministry. This position reviews and provides advice on the impact of proposed changes, which includes continuing data analysis, trending, forecasting, and financial modelling relating to utilization and cost of services. This position will also be integral in assessing the performance and effectiveness of existing programs, researching best practices, and proposing options and recommendations for future direction.
The position is responsible for the management of comprehensive statistical information systems. This includes the integration of data sets, monitoring current collection systems and ensuring relevancy of the existing databases, and the implementation of new approaches to data retrieval and applications. This position will be responsible to independently create and generate complex data queries, reports, and analysis using statistical software (SAS, SPSS) and/or other software tools/programs (Excel). This may include the development of methodologies for extracting information as well as designing, coding, and testing programs.
The position must demonstrate sound judgment and discretion in handling confidential and sensitive information, and must review legislation and bylaws utilized in the planning, coordination, monitoring, and review of activities in the statistical area as part of a provincial and national data gathering system.
As the successful candidate, you will have knowledge of the health delivery system. You will also have experience developing working relationships with internal and external stakeholders in order to work towards a shared goal. You will be an analytical thinker with strong conceptual and problem-solving skills and attention to detail. You will demonstrate the ability to analyze and interpret trends using a variety of data and research methodologies and tools, identify and develop options and solutions for policy and program development, and communicate results clearly to a variety of audiences. A strong client-service orientation is required to work with various internal and external stakeholders.
Typically, the knowledge and abilities for this position are attained through completion of a graduate degree in Statistics, Economics, or Computer Science, or a bachelor’s degree combined with program knowledge and experience.
