About the role

Posion Overview School District 67 has an opening for a 0.75 FTE (30 hours per week) – Exempt Posion (10 month – September 1 to June 30 every year) Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA). This posion does not work during school holidays.

The successful candidate will have a Speech Language Pathology assistant diploma or cerficate from an accredited instuon , knowledge of inclusion principles and pracces, and hold a valid Class 5 BC driver's license. The therapy assistant will be required to drive to our school sites throughout the day to provide support.

The candidate for this role will be collaborave and outgoing, with excellent verbal and writen communicaon skills, and have good physical strength, dexterity and endurance to perform all dues required.

Under direct supervision of a licensed Speech Language Pathologist (SLP), the SLPA will provide services to develop speech and language skills, oral-motor control for speech producon, and implement visual supports and assisve technology devices for communicaon. This includes preparing and organizing materials, conducng screenings and observaons , maintaining documentaon, and implemenng programs under the direcon of an SLP . Tasks assigned may also be general, non-specific, related to services provided to children from kindergarten through grade twelve. The therapy assistant supports high quality programming by supplemenng, enhancing, and extending speech/language therapy services in individual and group sengs.

The SLPA is responsible for keeping the supervising SLP apprised of progress and/or challenges and ensures that no service delivery changes are enacted unl the supervising SLP assigns them. The SLPA will communicate in a professional, transparent manner, consistent with the policies and procedures of SD67.

Summary Of Qualificaons Required

  • Compleon of a recognized Communicaon Health Assistant or Speech Language Pathology Assistant diploma program from a recognized accredited community college or university. The program must include a clinical component praccum that covers core competencies.
  • Experience with children is preferred.
  • Valid Class 5 BC driver's license and vehicle
  • Employment in this posion is conngent upon a successful Criminal Record Check. As per the Criminal Records Review Act, “Individuals working with children or vulnerable adults directly or potenally have unsupervised access to children or vulnerable adults must authorize a Criminal Record Check for their employer or authorized organizaon.”

Details Hours: 8:30 – 3:00 (30 hours per week), half hour unpaid lunch 10 month posion (Sept ember 1 to June 30 every year)

Salary: $33.50 /hour

Exempt Benefit Package included
