Location Safety Manager
Location: Winnipeg, Manitoba

Job Description Summary:
The Location Safety Manager oversees the safety program at the Winnipeg location, ensuring compliance with federal, provincial, and local regulations, as well as company policies. This role provides day-to-day safety management, supports company-wide safety initiatives, and promotes a culture of safety aligned with First Student's goals. The Safety Manager works closely with the Region Safety Manager and/or Multi-Site Safety Coordinator to implement best practices and monitor performance using key safety metrics and telematics.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer driver hiring and compliance processes.
- Oversee and support location trainers; monitor training hours and ensure compliance with training programs.
- Conduct safety event investigations using methodologies like the 5-Why's; complete reports and manage collision files.
- Determine event preventability in collaboration with the Location Manager; provide post-event counseling.
- Maintain compliance with all applicable regulations and company SOPs; manage documentation via DMO system.
- Plan and conduct monthly safety meetings aligned with internal and external safety goals.
- Provide safety-related training and support to employees.
- Monitor driver performance using technology, road evaluations, and telematics.
- Identify hazardous conditions and develop control methods and programs to reduce risk.
- Analyze safety data and trends; prepare action plans and performance improvement strategies.
- Manage safety and training program costs within budget; recommend cost-saving measures.
- Promote BeSafe principles through active participation in safety leadership activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirement
- Minimum 3 years of safety experience or a combination of college education and relevant experience.
Experience/Skills:
- Strong knowledge of federal, provincial, and local safety regulations (FMCSA/FTA).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); experience with timekeeping/payroll systems preferred.
- Familiarity with Smart technology and digital tools used in operations.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Strong time management and problem-solving abilities.
