About the role
The Manager of Student Services serves as the contact person for all student issues and concerns.
The incumbent will also be the contact person for student issues and concerns pertaining to student adjustment, immigration, health and wellness. Responsibilities include planning and coordinating new student orientation programs, cultural and social programs, and co-curricular student activities; serving as liaison for the campus “homestay” program; administering the campus judicial system; and assuring adherence to immigration regulations. The Manager of Student Services reports to the Executive Director of Operations, FDU – Vancouver.
Required Qualifications:
PRINCIPALDUTIES:

Plans, coordinates, implements, and evaluates a comprehensive co-curricular program in cooperation with the Student Government Association (SAG) to enhance the quality of student life and support enrollment and retention efforts.

Overseas international student advisors and adapts and revises FDUV policies and procedures, and counsels on social adaptation to Canadian culture.

Plans and coordinate New Student Orientation programs for the campus.

Develop, revise, maintain and distribute the Student Handbook.

Maintains student records utilizing the university’s Datatel system.
-
Support housing coordinator to formulate homestay and housing partners.
-
Serves as the advisor to the student association and helps facilitate the development of the organization.

Advises and coordinates disbursements of SGA
-
Ensuring the provisions of budgeting and activity planning and training for student clubs and Student Government.
-
Develops, implements, and monitors the operating and capital budgets for the Student Activities accounts.
-
Ensures appropriate assistance is provided to Student Government and clubs in developing, implementing, and monitoring their budgets.
-
Serves as an advocate for student concerns and represents students’ needs to university administrators, faculty, and staff.

Coordinates the organization of clubs and teams and facilitates registration and involvement in community leagues
-
Research student needs, attitudes, and opinions in relation to campus life, student services, and other matters. Develops and implements programs in response to students’ expressions of interest. Develops and implements strategies to get students involved in the activities and programs offered, and to help them feel connected to the campus.

Responsible for regulating hours of any Student Lounge area.

Overseas the campus judicial system in collaboration with the Executive Director of Operations.

Monitors and assures adherence to government regulations concerning immigration regulations in relation to visa requirements, work authorization, and tax laws for international students.

Ensures the accuracy and timeliness of all required reported information between the Vancouver Campus, FDU New Jersey campuses and immigration officials (when applicable).

Responsible for the hiring and training of student workers where required.

Works directly with faculty and staff to advise on immigration policy and its effects on academic decisions for international students.

Plans and implements campus recreational cultural and social programs for students.

Manages and maintains student related information on campus websites.
-
Designs and publishes any literature related to the functions of the office to serve the needs of students and provide resources to other campus offices.

Serves as liaison to counseling services and oversees the Peer Advising program.
-
Develops and coordinates community social and recreational events.
-
Refers students to other departments for academic advisement, career planning, and tutoring as needed.
-
Represents the university at community and student recruitment events as required.

Assists in the processing of admissions materials when needed by the Director or Associate Director of Admissions.

Organize, execute, and evaluate FDU’s student way finders’ program.
-
Identify individuals to serve as way finders and advocates for students.
-
Develop new programs to aid students as they seek answers, options, and support.
-
Act as primary student navigator that maximizes student opportunities for academic, social, emotional and overall success on campus.

Establish a network of individuals that are trained and prepared to intervene when students face challenges.
-
Act as a liaison between students, student-facing offices, and way finders.
-
Identify opportunities for immediate improvement in student affairs with a student-centered focus.
-
Performs other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications:
MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS:
-
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required, master’s degree in student Personnel Services, Higher Education Administration, or related field preferred.
-
A minimum of 3 years’ experience in Student Affairs and/or International Student Services with increasing levels of responsibility.
-
Strong oral and written communications and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with a diverse population of students, staff, and faculty.
-
Proficiency in the use of computerized systems for word processing, data management and other applications. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite preferred.
-
Experience in the planning and implementation of events.
-
Outstanding organizational skills.
-
Knowledge of the Canadian immigration system. Must have and maintain in good standing or be willing and eligible to obtain within the first 6 months of employment, the Regulated International Student Immigration Advisor (RISIA) designation with the Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council (ICCRC).

Valid passport for international travel.

Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record in accordance with the university’s Motor Vehicle Policy. An ICBC check will be required at the time of hire and thereafter as deemed appropriate by the university. Candidates for hire will be required to sign a waiver authorizing the ICBC check.

Must be willing and able to work flexible hours including occasional evenings and weekends.

Canadian residency or work permit required.
