About the role

Clean Harbors in Breslau, Ontario, is currently looking for Refinery Operator, to join their safety-conscious team! Refinery operators will be responsible to monitor oil processing, adjust and maintain processing units and equipment in the plant while maintaining compliance with all safety and government regulations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operate computerized control panel from a central control room to monitor and optimize physical and chemical processes for several processing units.
  • Assesses specifications and controls continuous operation of petroleum refining and processing units to produce products, such as lubricating oils, by such methods as distillation, absorption, extraction, adsorption, thermal and catalytic cracking.
  • Reads processing schedules, operating logs, test results of oil samples, and laboratory recommendations to determine changes in equipment controls required to produce specified quantity and quality of product.
  • Moves and positions controls, such as knobs, valves, switches, levers, and index arms, on control panels to control process variables (i.e flows, temperatures, pressures, vacuum, time, catalyst, and chemicals) by automatic regulation and remote control of processing units (ie. heaters, furnaces, compressors, exchangers, reactors, quenchers, stabilizers, fractionators, rechargers, absorbers, strippers, debutanizers, stills, and towers)
  • Train staff as required.
  • Actively engage and participate in safety audits/programs, including, but not limited to, permit writing, inspection forms, etc.
  • Other Duties as Assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Attention to detail.
  • Education/Experience: High School + specialized training or 1 year college: science/ engineering/ related technical field.
  • 4th Class Stationary Engineer Certificate to act as Shift Engineer for the Utilities
  • Basic math knowledge.
  • 1-5 years of experience related field.
  • Verbal/written communication skills
  • Knowledge of process equipment (Pumps, Motors, Valves, Piping, Instrumentation)
  • Computer skills
