Job Description:
On behalf of our public sector client, Affinity is looking for a Senior SQL Analyst Responsible for analyzing existing Argos report logic, reverse‑engineering PL/SQL and T‑SQL, and redesigning queries for new data sources (Azure DW, Data Lake, Banner). Produces migration specs, writes new SQL, supports unit testing and UAT, documents data structures and logic, and contributes to Power BI report development.
Must-Have Experience (they check these explicitly)
- 8+ years as Systems/Data Analyst
- 5+ years Oracle PL/SQL
- 5+ years T-SQL
- 3+ years Microsoft Azure (any role)
- 3+ years Microsoft T-SQL (listed separately, so emphasize SQL Server experience)
- 2+ years Power BI development
- Big assets (not mandatory): Argos experience, prior Canadian university work
Nice-to-Have Education/Certs
- Undergraduate degree in CS or related OR college diploma in Software Dev/Data Analytics
- AND Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate (DP-203)
Core Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Meet with business units to understand what each Argos report actually does
- Reverse-engineer the existing SQL (mostly Oracle PL/SQL + some T-SQL)
- Redesign the queries to pull from new sources (Azure DW, Data Lake, Banner tables, etc.)
- Write detailed migration specs + new SQL for developers to rebuild the reports
- Unit test, coordinate UAT with business, push to production
- Document everything (table structures, logic, data flows, validation results)
- Some actual report development (especially Power BI)
Key Deliverables
- Source-code documentation
- Migration specifications (reverse-engineered logic, new SQL, parameters, dependencies)
- Tested & validated reports
- Knowledge transfer docs
