About the role

Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario.

  What will I be doing?

    • Assist with data collection, data quality, optimize data presentation, generate reports, perform ongoing monitoring, and conduct various ad hoc analyses. 
    • Review and analysis of new and existing operational configurations and/or maintenance practices to provide a variety of management reports that track operational performance. 
    • Assist in the provision of standard performance reporting and planning within defined time scales to management, including:  
    • Identification of performance trends 
    • Recommendations regarding how to meet KPIs and performance targets 
    • Potential root causes 
    • Areas of potential improvements concerning pertaining to operations 
    • Project future performance by integrating anticipated benefits from team-developed action plans and evaluating both performance outcomes and the realization of those benefits.  
    • Support the organization in the forecasting of operational performance, factoring in the impact of future organizational change and external factors. 
    • Plan, organize, and lead, or participate in, projects as assigned, including new technology testing, meetings, presentations, and liaison with other participants. 
    • Understand data source systems and work with functional teams to develop, optimize processes, and leverage information for performance reporting and data analysis. 
    • Design, develop, deliver, maintain dashboards, and other reports that enhance Metrolinx understanding of trends related to various operational metrics such as timeliness, availability, customer experience.  
    • Develop and maintain comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of internal and external data sources relevant to operations, and data of relevant systems to design and build meaningful reports for internal and external stakeholders. 
    • Define and implements data reporting and analysis best practices (e.g. user interface, visualizations, data integrity, test design, analysis, validation, and documentation). 
    • Analyze operational, and/or project-related processes and procedures, and recommends streamlined solutions for identified inefficiencies. 

      • Track, monitor, and flag issues with data, then produce management reports to support business objectives. 
      • Participate in working groups, contribute ideas for improvement, and collaborate with peers. 
      • Support customers and stakeholders through recommendations and actions plans derived from data extraction, transformation, and analysis 
      • Support analytical projects designed to uncover areas of performance improvements, efficiencies, and optimization within operations, and subsequently develops business recommendations. 
      • Acts as liaison to stakeholder to assist and providing information on or interpretation/application of business programs 
      • Collaborates with internal and external contacts as necessary to gather business requirements during the initiation, development, and implementation of assigned projects 

        • Conduct quality checks on data, such as validation of information, and support formalized auditing activities. 
        • Support work with I&IT and other stakeholders to get more value from data by providing requirements for data sources, technology, and improving reporting tools like business intelligence systems. 
        • Plan, organize, or participate in projects (e.g. new technology testing, meetings, presentations, and liaising with other participants)

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?

  • Completion of a diploma  in Business Administration, Information Technology, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Economics, or a related field—or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

    • Minimum 2 years’ progressive experience in conducting quantitative analysis, development of dashboards/reports, and gathering, tracking and analyzing data.   
    • Minimum 2 years' experience in automating data workflows, creating visualizations, and improving reporting processes to enhance operational efficiency. 

      • Knowledge of planning, formulating, analyzing, and monitoring transit operations would be asset. 
      • Proficiency in MS suite of products, Business Intelligence tools (e.g. Power BI, Tableau, QlikSense, etc.).   
      • Skilled in analyzing operational and project processes to identify issues, uncover inefficiencies, and recommend data-driven solutions that improve performance and support strategic goals. 
      • Proven oral/written/presentation communication skills to develop and maintain management reports.  
      • Capability to convert business rules & data transformation logic into data processing or data analysis code (e.g. DAX Query, R studio, SQL scripting, Python, Power Query). 
      • Knowledge of information systems to collect, extract data and present data in audience appropriate digestible format (example: creating and maintaining reports, digital dashboards, PowerPoint presentations).  
      • Knowledge of customer experience / operational performance measurement methodologies and ability to analyze and translate customer feedback / operational data into actionable insights. 
      • Proven ability in quantitative, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
