About the role

Job Description The Quality Control Technician - Electrical is responsible for in process, formal inspections for all specific electrical trade systems at all stages of construction. The role is responsible to ensure specifications, class rules, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and work instructions are implemented at each stage of construction. The Technician executes the Inspection and Test Plan for the specific operation, trade area or system.

Additionally, the technician attends formal inspections with owners and regulatory bodies.

The shift timings for this position are from 2:30 pm to 11 pm. Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 50 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver. What You'll Do

  • Reviews specifications, class rules, work instructions and SOPs to determine trade specific quality requirements for each contract.
  • Performs daily in-process quality inspections of trade specific work. Documents and communicates results to responsible supervisors.
  • Perform quality control electrical activities for new construction and repair projects at Seaspan Shipyards.
  • Produces and signs final inspection reports that are deliverable as objective quality evidence to the customer.
  • Performs receiving inspection of components, mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Attends formal inspections with customers and regulatory bodies. Documents all defects, nonconformities and provides results to responsible supervisors and Customer/Class as required.
  • Works with trade and area supervisors to improve in-process quality.
  • Performs gap analyses of procedures, work instructions and forms for trade specific systems. Communicates results to respective area and assists in developing and modifying procedures, work instructions and forms as required.
  • Maintains quality files for trade specific area.
  • Performs periodic audits of trade specific suppliers to ensure compliance with contract requirements.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

What You'll Bring

  • Diploma in relevant discipline (Marine, Mechanical Naval Architect, Electrical Engineering preferred) or Red Seal Trades Certificates, or
  • 5-8 years experience in shipyards or complex manufacturing industry, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, or
  • Technical understanding of NDT techniques and their application to meet contract, regulatory and statutory requirements for trade specific systems will be an asset.
  • Prior Quality Control or Quality Assurance experience is desirable.
  • Formal quality assurance certifications desirable.
  • Understanding of the fabrication, installation, commissioning and testing of trade specific systems.
  • Working knowledge of quality control and inspection procedures.
  • Ability to develop Quality Plans and Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
  • Technical skills including an understanding of quality techniques, their application to shipbuilding and the ability to read and interpret technical specification and drawings.
  • Strong Communication skills and customer service focus.
  • Technical writing skills.
  • Advanced computer skills including Outlook / Word / Excel / PowerPoint / Visio / SharePoint / AutoCAD.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and problem solve.
  • Good judgment and reasoning skills.
  • Ability to work with limited direction.

The estimated salary for this position is $84,600 - $103,400. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors, including the successful candidate’s skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
