Job Description
The Sales Associate assists in all areas of the Thrift Store’s operation including: the efficient and effective reclamation, processing or distribution of warehouse goods; provides quality customer service; participation in the maintenance of an effective and attractive display merchandise in order to maximize profitability of the store. The incumbent will be working at the Westbank Thrift Store located at #101-3531 Old Okanagan Highway in Westbank, B.C.
RESPONSIBILITIES And Accountabilities
Provide positive and courteous service to customers
Process customer transactions at the sales counter including cash and debit/credit sales ensuring accuracy and in accordance with policies and procedures Accurate opening and closing of store procedures when required, including POS terminals and till Assist in keeping the general sales floor neat & clean and assure product displays are kept full and are tidy Keep stock rotated as per schedule or as directed by supervisor Implements store layout plans to attract customers including window displays and merchandise displays; Arrange and display sales items Work with volunteers as assigned Ensure workstations for volunteers are clear and ready before they arrive Receives, sorts, stores and prices donations as per directions and standards Process donated items by unloading, sorting, packing, storing, bailing and reloading the donations Lifts and relocates bags and boxes to determined areas as required. Assists with heavy lifting as required Climbs ladders and stores seasonal product in overhead storage bins Separates recycling and garbage, and processes both according to the direction given, including into truck for removal Meets assigned daily targets; counts, weighs and record incoming and outgoing donations Maintains general cleanliness along with the safety and functionality of warehouse and property in accordance with all safety policies and guidelines May operate the forklift to move goods as necessary after sufficient training Shares janitorial duties in common spaces such as washroom and kitchen Performs other duties as assigned

Physical Effort/Dexterity Required
The performance of the job requires frequently standing for long periods of time, twisting, bending, crouching, reaching overhead, pulling and pushing, kneeling & lifting up to 25 pounds Concentration Required The performance of the job requires frequent safety awareness and sorting of donations Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility Typical working location for this position is in the entire facility and property designated The performance of the job requires mopping/sweeping, bending/twisting/lifting, occasional ladder work and fine motor skills The performance of the job requires moderate to high attention when using motorized equipment, handling hazardous chemicals, adhering to safety procedures and regulations Works under the following disagreeable conditions: Odors Dealing with angry people Exposure to drugs and alcohol Verbal abuse Various weather conditions Multi-tasking May be exposed to the risk of moderate to severe injury or illnesses due to: Physical attacks by others Exposure to infectious diseases Exposure to toxic chemicals Moving objects Sharp objects (e.g. needle pricking) Electrical Hazards Injury from lifting Falling on wet/slippery floors Repetitive strain injuries (e.g., back, wrist). Education, Qualifications And Certifications
As this is a job under the Federal Government's Canada Summer Jobs Program, the incumbent must: be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period, be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment** and have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations WHMIS Certificate First Aid Certificate
Experience And Skilled Knowledge Requirements
A minimum of three (3) months prior related experience, Alternative combination of education and experience may be considered Able to provide Criminal Background Check screening and Vulnerable Sector Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.

Compensation
The target hiring range for this position is $18.25 to $21.04 with a maximum of $23.82.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
