The Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories is seeking a Clerk of the Legislative Assembly to join its executive leadership team in Yellowknife.

This is a rare opportunity to serve at the centre of parliamentary democracy in Canada. As the Assembly's chief procedural advisor and Deputy Head of the Office of the Legislative Assembly, you'll provide impartial advice to the Speaker and Members, oversee an organization of approximately 50 employees and a budget exceeding $28 million, and help ensure the effective operation of one of Canada's unique consensus governments.

About the Role Reporting directly to the Speaker, you'll provide authoritative advice on parliamentary law, procedure, privilege, and practice while leading the administration of the Office of the Legislative Assembly. You'll oversee corporate services, House operations, committee support, Members' services, the Legislative Assembly precinct, and administrative oversight of the Assembly's Statutory Officers.

Success in this role requires exceptional judgment, strategic leadership, and an unwavering commitment to impartiality. You'll help ensure the Legislative Assembly continues to operate with integrity, independence, and transparency while supporting elected Members in fulfilling their constitutional responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities Serve as the chief procedural advisor to the Speaker, Members, and Assembly committees on parliamentary law, procedure, and privilege Lead the Office of the Legislative Assembly, overseeing approximately 50 employees, strategic operations, and an annual budget of more than $28 million Provide executive leadership for corporate services, House operations, committee services, Members' support, and the Legislative Assembly precinct Act as Secretary to the Board of Management, providing advice on governance, financial oversight, and organizational administration Ensure the preservation of the Assembly's official records and oversee the delivery of legislative, procedural, administrative, and interpretation services during sittings Lead organizational planning, governance modernization, policy development, and continuous improvement while maintaining the Assembly's independence and impartiality

Qualifications Required Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by: A graduate degree in Law, Political Science, Public Administration, or a related discipline Five (5) to ten (10) years of progressive senior management experience, preferably within a legislative or parliamentary environment

Candidates should demonstrate experience in: Strategic leadership and organizational management Corporate governance and public sector administration Human resource leadership and managing significant financial resources Leading complex organizations through change while maintaining operational excellence

Experience working within a Consensus Government model or another parliamentary jurisdiction would be considered a strong asset.
