Position Title

Recovery on Campus (ROC) Coordinator

Position Summary

The Recovery on Campus (ROC) Coordinator will work to grow a sustainable, recovery-affirming environment at RDP by supporting students, staff and faculty. This position will work in alignment with requirements of Recovery on Campus Alberta funding and the goals of RDP’s Student Mental Health Strategy.

Main areas of responsibility will be Recovery on Campus program coordination, program promotion, and data collection. The Coordinator will develop a series of substance-free or recovery focused events that are inclusive and welcoming. They will be part of the larger Mental Health and Wellbeing Education team within Student Supports at Red Deer Polytechnic.

Position Responsibilities

Program Coordination

  • Establish a strong and robust resource base for addiction and recovery support for members of the campus community.
  • Develop a comprehensive, multi-year Recovery on Campus action plan including timeline, goals, impact measures, and a sustainability strategy, working within ROC budget
  • Develop and oversee the implementation of Recovery on Campus initiatives ensuring alignment with the Student Mental Health Strategy, divisional business plans and RDP strategic drivers and fulfilling all grant requirements of the Recovery on Campus grant.

Program Promotion

  • Coordinate recovery friendly and substance-free social events that are inclusive and welcoming.
  • Create an annual calendar of events & activities to raise awareness
  • Promote appropriate addiction and recovery related awareness days and education campaigns as it aligns to the recovery friendly campus pledge requirements and standards of practice

Data Collection & Organization

  • Ensuring a well-organized system of data collection, survey requirements & program evaluations.
  • Collect and analyze data from surveys, focus groups, program evaluations and general campus feedback to inform program development and program effectiveness.
  • Prepare regular reports for supervisors on the impact and outcomes of addiction and recovery-based programs and initiatives.

Continuous Growth and Acquisition of New Skills

  • Participates in training and professional development activities as they become available

  • Seeks learning opportunities from other staff (e.g. Peer mentoring) in Student Supports to increase knowledge of Division of Student Experience services and to provide initial support and triage to students, faculty and staff

Required Qualifications

  • Four (4) year undergraduate degree, or three (3) year undergraduate degree plus one full additional year of university in a related program representing four years of study or equivalent.

  • Preferably Psychology, Social Work or other Human Services degree.

  • 2-3 years of post-secondary training plus relevant experience will be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional understanding of substance use, addiction and recovery, with education and ability to advocate for an all paths to recovery model of support

  • One to two years’ experience using a variety of techniques for successful program delivery, both virtually and in person and have excellent presentation skills which lean on learning and development best practice to engage students effectively

  • Ability and knowledge to work with an increasingly diverse student and staff population as well as a proven commitment to anti-oppression, equity, and inclusion

  • Demonstrated aptitude with computer software and programs such as word processing, spreadsheets, and content management systems

  • Demonstrated aptitude with social media tools and web applications

  • Excellent interpersonal and online communication skills

  • Previous event planning experience may be considered an asset

  • Comfortable having difficult and vulnerable conversations with individuals

  • Understanding of and ability to maintain confidentiality
