About the role

About HazTrack

HazTrack is bringing IoT sensor technology and real-time data analytics to a massive, overlooked industrial market: used cooking oil (UCO) collection. The UCO industry is a foundational part of the circular economy—turning restaurant waste into renewable biofuels—but it struggles with inefficient routing, costly emergency pickups, and hundreds of millions of dollars in widespread UCO theft.

We solve this.

HazTrack builds rugged wireless tank-level sensors and a powerful software platform that gives our customers real-time visibility into their assets. We help collectors optimize their routes, reduce operational costs, prevent theft, and operate with true data-driven insight. We are a fast-growing, venture-backed startup based in Calgary, scaling across North America and becoming the operating system for UCO collectors everywhere.

The role

This is a hands-on ownership role. We already have a working data function: signal processing pipelines built in Python and pandas with proper CI/CD, and pipelines and standards that our team relies on today. You'll take ownership of that function, keep raising the bar on it, and be the person who advocates for good data practices as we grow. You'll have real support from engineering, but you're accountable for the standards and the outcomes.

What you'll own

Signal processing. Own our existing signal processing pipeline, built in Python and pandas, with CI/CD already in place, and make it better: improving the smoothing/filtering that cleans up sensor noise and spikes, the event detection (fills, dumps, theft, malfunctions), and the predictive models that forecast tank levels and disposal timing. Data pipelines. Own the standards for our existing data pipelines, the ingestion, transformation, and tagging of sensor data streaming in from field-deployed devices and keep improving them as we scale. Data visualization and reporting. Maintain and improve the dashboards and internal tools that make sensor data legible, both for our own team making product and operational decisions, and, where relevant, for the visibility we surface to customers. Data standards. Maintain, improve, and advocate for the data standards and coding practices already in place as we add more sensors, more customers, and more people working with the data Cross-functional partnership. Work closely with our hardware, firmware, and engineering teams to understand sensor behavior at the source and turn signal into insight customers act on.

Who you are

Required You have hands-on experience building and improving signal processing algorithms, filtering, smoothing, event or anomaly detection, forecasting, on real-world, noisy sensor or time-series data, ideally in Python/pandas. You take ownership of a data function's standards and quality, and you advocate for good practices rather than letting them slip as things get busy. You're comfortable across the data lifecycle: ingestion, transformation, tagging, analysis, and visualization, and can work both independently and with engineering support. You have a solid grounding in statistics and applied math as it relates to time-series and sensor data. You're fluent in SQL and comfortable working directly with databases and structured data. You want to take an existing, well-built data function to the next level, improving and scaling something good, not just running analysis in isolation. You can be on-site in Calgary.

Strong assets

Experience designing and running ETL pipelines (e.g. Airflow, dbt, or similar). Experience with data lakes or data warehouses (e.g. Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, S3-based lakes). Experience with BI or visualization tools (e.g. Metabase, Grafana, Tableau, Power BI, Looker). Background working with Lidar, Radar, or other time-of-flight/ranging sensor data specifically. Experience with IoT or industrial sensor data, especially from field-deployed hardware. Familiarity with cloud data infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure).

We care more about what you've built and improved than about pedigree or years-in-seat. If you've taken a good data function and made it genuinely better, we want to talk.

What we offer

A high-ownership role taking an established data function to the next level, with real support from engineering, a direct reporting line to the CTO, and real influence over how the company scales. A recently funded, fast-growing company with strong customers and a clear path into a much larger market. Competitive compensation, commensurate with experience, plus equity and benefits.
