About the role
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Project Controller to join our Engineering Department. Reporting to the Senior Director, Engineering and Design, this individual will oversee multiple engineering projects, ensuring efficient tracking, communication, and risk management. The Project Controller will be the key contact person for project updates, working closely with project managers to ensure milestones are met and risks are mitigated.
This role will also support financial management, collaborating with Finance and Accounting Department to maintain accurate budgeting and cost controls. By identifying potential risks, red-flagging critical issues, and ensuring contingency plans are in place, the Project Controller will help drive project success and operational efficiency.
T&T Supermarket Inc. was founded in 1993 with two stores in BC. Since then, it has expanded rapidly and is now Canada’s largest Asian supermarket chain with 37 stores across the country: 14 in BC, 7 in Alberta, 14 in Ontario, and 2 in Quebec. The Company’s continuous expansion is going to bring more new stores in the next couple of years.
Program Oversight & Communication (70%)
- Oversee and manage the tracking of engineering project milestones, timelines, and deliverables across the department.
- Collaborate with project managers and contractors to ensure milestones are met, documenting any delays, challenges, and necessary adjustments.
- Develop and maintain clear, structured reporting channels, ensuring stakeholders are informed of project progress, risks, and delays.
- Create and maintain project status reports and dashboards, providing senior leadership with visibility into project performance.
- Develop best practices for document management and project control to improve efficiency and consistency.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for internal teams regarding project updates, ensuring seamless communication across departments.
- Implement and oversee risk management strategies to identify, assess, and mitigate schedule delays, cost overruns, regulatory compliance, performance issues, and operational risks, escalating critical issues for resolution.
- Document and track change orders, ensuring approvals are obtained and recorded as necessary.
Financial Management & Cost Control (20%)
- Manage year-end accruals for engineering projects, collaborating with Finance and Accounting (F&A) to ensure accuracy and timely reporting.
- Analyze project costs by country, project type, and scope to identify cost-saving opportunities and improve efficiency.
- Maintain and improve vendor payment terms while ensuring timely updates to F&A.
- Manage purchase order tracking and capital spending reconciliation, ensuring procurement stays within budget.
- Support budget forecasting, providing accurate financial data to aid strategic decision-making.
Cross-Departmental Coordination (10%)
- Act as the key liaison between the Engineering Department, F&A, and other internal business units to ensure efficient project tracking and financial operations.
- Ensure all project updates and financial documentation are accurate and submitted on time.
- Support change management processes, ensuring smooth transitions and minimizing project disruptions.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Finance, or a related quantitative field (or equivalent experience).
- 3+ years of experience in a program or project management role, preferably within an engineering or construction environment.
- Strong knowledge of project management principles, methodologies, and best practices.
- Hands-on experience in financial management, project accounting, or cost control within an engineering, construction, or industrial setting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Project; experience with project management software is a plus.
- Project management certification (e.g., PMP, CAPM) is a plus.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across multiple teams and leadership levels.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with a focus on process improvements and operational efficiency.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities simultaneously.
- Fleuncy in written and spoken English
- Able to communicate in Chinese (Mandarin and/or Cantonese) is an asset.
