About the role
Position Overview
The Design & Estimating Manager will oversee the design, drafting, and estimating departments, ensuring the timely and accurate development of wall, floor, roof, and deck panel shop drawings, project estimates, and related documentation. This role is responsible for managing the design and estimating processes from concept through production release, coordinating with project managers and the manufacturing team to ensure deliverables align with client specifications, building codes, and company standards. The Manager will also be responsible for effectively leading both in-house and remote team members, ensuring collaboration and productivity across all work settings.
Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage the design/drafting and estimating teams, including training, mentoring, and performance management.

Review and interpret architectural, structural, and engineering drawings for accuracy, constructability, and estimating purposes.

Ensure all panelized system designs and cost estimates meet CSA standards, building codes, and project-specific requirements.

Develop, implement, and maintain drafting/design standards, estimating procedures, and quality control processes.

Manage workload, schedules, and priorities for both design and estimating to meet project deadlines.

Collaborate with project management and manufacturing teams to resolve design challenges, validate quantities, and support efficient production.

Provide technical guidance in the use of drafting software (AutoCAD, SEMA, Revit, or equivalent).

Coordinate with external engineers, architects, and consultants as required.

Oversee shop drawing approvals, estimate reviews, and ensure timely release of information for manufacturing.

Maintain design and estimating documentation, revisions, and records in accordance with company procedures.

Support innovation and continuous improvement in prefab design methods, estimating accuracy, and department practices.

Manage a hybrid team of in-house and remote workers by setting clear expectations, monitoring performance, and utilizing digital collaboration tools to ensure effective communication and seamless workflow across locations.
Qualifications

Diploma/Degree in Architectural Technology, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.

5+ years of experience in architectural drafting, structural design, estimating, or prefab construction.

2+ years in a leadership or supervisory role, preferably in manufacturing or construction.

Strong knowledge of building codes, structural design principles, prefab construction systems, and estimating practices.

Proficiency in drafting and estimating software (AutoCAD, Revit, SEMA, or equivalent).

Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.

Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Experience managing remote or geographically dispersed teams is an asset.
