The Information Security Administrator Co-op position is designed for students or recent graduates who are eager to gain hands-on experience in the field of information security. Job Description Key Responsibilities: Responsibilities As an Information Security Administrator Co-op, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks that ensure the security and integrity of the Foresters information systems. Your key responsibilities will include:
Security Monitoring and Incident Response
- Monitor the Foresters networks and systems for security breaches through established tools and methodologies.
- Identify and respond to security incidents, investigate potential security threats, and escalate issues as necessary.
- Assist in the development and improvement of incident response procedures and documentation.
Vulnerability Management
- Conduct regular vulnerability assessments and scans to identify security weaknesses.
- Collaborate with IT teams to remediate identified vulnerabilities and ensure timely patch management.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging vulnerabilities and threats.
Security Awareness and Training
- Support the development and delivery of security awareness training programs for employees.
- Assist in creating security awareness materials such as newsletters, posters, and emails to educate staff on best practices.
- Conduct phishing simulations and analyze the results to identify areas for improvement.
Compliance and Policy Enforcement
- Assist in ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., OSFI, NIST, ISO27001 etc).
- Help enforce organizational security policies and procedures.
- Participate in internal and external security audits as needed.
Security Projects and Research
- Contribute to security-related projects and initiatives aimed at improving the overall security posture of the organization.
- Conduct research on new security technologies, tools, and methodologies.
- Assist in evaluating and recommending security solutions to address organizational needs.
- Develop positive working relationships with various teams involved in security and privacy matters
Key Qualifications Educational Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a degree program in Information Security, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Relevant coursework in cybersecurity, network security, or information assurance is preferred.
Technical Skills
- Familiarity with common information security concepts, practices, and tools.
- Basic understanding of network protocols, operating systems, and security architecture.
- Experience with security monitoring tools, vulnerability scanners, and incident response procedures is a plus.
Soft Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Attention to detail and a proactive approach to security issues
Salary Range $21.00 - $30.00 per hour
The actual base salary for this position will depend on several factors, including job-related skills, experience, and education. In addition to base pay, eligible employees may participate in a discretionary variable incentive plan, results are subject to both individual and company performance.
