Position Overview:
The Project Engineer I contributes to technical and commercial aspects of an investment project. Execution will be completed safely, timely, on budget and per the agreed scope and functionality. Cooperates and communicates actively with the plant leadership team business leaders to ensure alignment in all stages of the project.
Responsible for contributing to equipment and work specifications; assisting with the development of schedules, budgets and forecasts; recommends materials, equipment, project resources, and contractors and participates in design reviews to ensure solution is technically and commercially viable for scope, safety, quality, and functionality.
The Project Engineer I provides support in the different stages of the project and recommends and reviews options.
Your Day to Day:
Execute investment projects with limited/medium complexity according to the requirements described below:
- Champion Drawing control
- Developing SolidWorks models for various existing and new equipment
- Using SolidWorks Models to complete CFD analysis
- Prepare Finite Element Analysis models to understand the various failure modes.
- Support the development, review, and presentation of project feasibility studies and business cases that accurately identify project benefits, risks, and returns project assignments concurrently and driving projects to completion.
- Supports the cost estimating and scheduling of approved projects. May draft resource plan to assist project managers. Participates in the review of options to identify in the end the most optimal technical solution to meet the cost/performance improvements defined in the business case.
- Participates in the evaluation of vendors in close cooperation with procurement to check cost/performance and decides according to the project RACI on the sourcing plan.
- Assist with project management and oversight for all aspects and phases for multiple project assignments concurrently and drives projects or subprojects to completion.
- Support the review of Mechanical and/or Electrical & Controls detail engineering.
- Prepare and review technical specifications for equipment and services to ensure compliance with JM standards.
- Coordinate, review, provide oversight and manage external engineering resources and consultants as needed.
- Develop bid request documentation, supplier lists, bid evaluations, and make recommendations for purchasing.
- Assist with design of safe processes and specification of safe equipment, ensures that ergonomics are considered in all areas of design, and that potential safety and health hazards are identified and eliminated during project execution
- Assist with design and specify environmentally compliant equipment and processes, ensure that all permit requirements are considered and addressed in the design, and that potential environmental issues are identified and addressed during project execution.
- Prepare, review, deliver, and implement necessary training to maintenance and operations hourly workforce regarding the project.
- Ensure that all safety policies and procedures are followed, driving a zero-incident project environment.
- Work with Engineering Leaders and Procurement to evaluate potential engineering firms and contractors.
- Maintain effective communication to management and project customers regarding project status, problems, and changes.
- Apply lean manufacturing concepts to all aspects of design and project execution.
- Prepare, organize, document, and archive project documentation.
- Drives a continuous lesson learned logbook through the project and drives the analysis after finishing the project. Communication of the results in the engineering team to support the continuous improvement.
- Works proactively with process engineers, production, and maintenance departments to understand and solve process and equipment issues, and to identify improvement opportunities based on joint performance reviews with coworkers.
- Provide engineering input for improved automation and product packaging opportunities.
- Follows the trends in technology and equipment design by visiting tradeshows / exhibitions and key vendors.
- May be required to perform other related duties as assigned.
What You Bring to the Team:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical Engineering preferred) with a minimum of 1 year of engineering experience in industrial or manufacturing industry.
- Experience with SolidWorks.
- Project management skills.
- Ability to learn leadership skills, managing contractors, negotiations, etc.
- Demonstrated high level of drive and initiative to complete assigned tasks and investigate and seek out improvement opportunities.
- Solid interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Ability to interface at all levels of the organization, both internally and externally.
- Potential travel required (project specific).
- Work environment is typical of a manufacturing facility: May be exposed to environmental conditions of cold, heat, high noise levels, moving mechanical parts, heights, dust/mist/gas/fumes, extensive walking or climbing, etc.
- May be required to lift, carry, push or pull up to and including 25 pounds.
