Position Summary The R&D Project Manager leads cross-functional projects from early concept through production start-up. You will scope and cost equipment builds, plan and sequence activities (Gantt), assess feasibility, define requirements, and manage risks while coordinating internal teams and subcontractors. You’ll oversee technical development, prototype and validate solutions, support NPI transfer to manufacturing, and drive documentation and cost-reduction initiatives. Success in this role requires strong communication, hands-on problem solving, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-moving, collaborative environment.
This position is 100% on site at Industriel, Magog, QC J1X 5G9
Responsibilities
- Estimating design, material procurement, and labor costs associated with equipment manufacturing, and preparing the requested quotations.
- Evaluating project timelines and activity sequencing, and presenting this planning using Gantt charts.
- Conducting feasibility analyses of proposed concepts during the preliminary project phase.
- Defining requirements using a matrix to ensure needs are properly addressed.
- Identifying potential risks and establishing mitigation strategies.
- Researching new techniques or technologies related to experimental development projects or equipment manufacturing.
- Managing task assignments for design drafters related to project execution and monitoring progress on their work.
- Overseeing the technical development of designs and ensuring that completed concepts align with specifications and defined budgets.
- Coordinating all resources involved in project execution, from specification definition to delivery and production start-up.
- Exercising strict control over project budgets and timelines, and reporting progress to your supervisor.
- Carrying out prototyping activities to conduct tests and measurements aimed at validating or refining proposed concepts.
- Supervising and overseeing subcontracting activities (both internal and external) related to projects.
- Planning, preparing, and coordinating all project-related meetings (specification definition, design reviews, schedule and budget reviews, user training, etc.).
- Participating in the installation and start-up of developed equipment.
- Collaborating with technical specialists (electrical and mechanical) to develop, implement, and test new principles and ideas.
- Supporting production during the transfer of new products.
- Developing or simplifying work instructions to share knowledge with other team members.
- Implementing cost reduction initiatives for current products.
- Carrying out manual tasks as required.
Mindset, Skills & Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a combination of education and experience deemed equivalent.
- 1 to 3 years in a manufacturing environment in a similar role.
- Proficiency in 3D design software (SolidWorks or other is an asset).
- Mature, inspiring leadership style with strong interpersonal communication.
- Collaborative, open-minded, and resourceful with high initiative.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Structured problem-solver with strong attention to detail and follow-through.
