About the role

DANCE INSTRUCTOR

Dance Instructors are responsible for introducing children aged 2 to 12 to a diverse range of dance styles, including parent/tot programs, introductory programs, ballet, jazz, and hip-hop. Successful candidates for this role will be friendly, mature, and responsible individuals with strong skills in planning and executing safe and high-quality dance programs.

The successful candidate must be available and qualified to teach all Saturday morning classes scheduled between 8:45am and 12:00pm, as determined by program registration.

Saturday Programs**:**

Tiny Toes (parented / 2-3 yrs)

Tiny Twirlers (3-5 yrs)

Hip Hop (5-7 yrs)

Hip Hop (8-12 yrs)

Program Timelines**:**

  • Fall 1 session: Sept 13 – Oct 25
  • Fall 2 session: Nov 1 – Dec 13
  • Winter session: Jan 10 – Mar 14
  • Spring session: TBA (April – June)

If you have qualifications and are available to act as a sub on Sundays (Tiny Twirlers parented/2-3yrs, Petite Pirouette 3-5yrs, Ballet/Jazz.Stretch 5-7yrs), please make note when submitting application.

Qualifications:

  • Dance Instructor Certification preferred.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in the specific style(s) of dance being taught (e.g., introductory dance, ballet, jazz, hip-hop).
  • Minimum 1-year experience teaching dance to children/youth of varying ages and skill levels. This could include teaching at a dance studio, schools, community centres, or recreation centres.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C Certification.
  • Clear Police Security Check with Vulnerable Sector Search (within the last six months).
  • Previous experience in a recreation environment and High Five Certified is an asset.

Required Skills / Experience:

  • Passion for dance and teaching
  • Presents a positive, inspiring, and enthusiastic attitude
  • Knowledge of age/developmental stages
  • Provide a safe and fun program for all participants
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Punctual, reliable, and able to work the required schedule

Performance Responsibilities:

Passion for Dance: Genuine passion for dance and a desire to share that passion with others.

Communication Skills: Ability to effectively communicate dance techniques and concepts to students of all ages and skill levels. Good interpersonal skills are important for interacting with program participants, caregivers, and colleagues.

Patience and Encouragement: A positive and encouraging attitude, along with patience and empathy, especially when supporting beginners and children who may be struggling to grasp certain dance techniques. The goal is always fun!

Be a positive role model: Present a supportive/caring approach and professional appearance. Actively promote Trico’s mission, vision, and values.

Organization and Planning: Capability to plan and organize dance classes, including selecting appropriate music, designing choreography, and structuring introductory lessons to meet the needs of students.

Maintain facilities: Ensure equipment is properly stored and secure. Immediately report any safety hazards or maintenance issues to the Duty Manager and/or Director.

Safety Awareness: Be a positive and pro-active role model who adheres to rules during activities and demonstrates proper use of equipment. Follow emergency procedures and protocols. Provide first aid assistance when required.

Wage: $18-$24 per hour
