**Long term overnight nanny needed for a sweet eight-year-old boy, near 33rd and Granville, to start ASAP

This lovely repeat family is looking for a nanny who can provide overnight monitoring and support for their medically fragile son. He is a charming little boy who loves reading, music, and dancing. He can communicate well using ASL, spoken word and AAC. He has some medical issues and has Down syndrome. Due to his medical concerns, he is G-tube fed and is on oxygen supplied by a nasal cannula. He also uses a nasal high flow humidifier and his oxygen levels are monitored overnight. Experience in caring for individuals who have Down syndrome, developmental delays or medical needs would be an asset, but is not required.

Schedule:

The hours are 11PM to 7AM, Tuesdays to Saturdays, however, the family is flexible as to which nights the Nanny would be available. They have Monday nights covered so they would be happy to consider any combination of shifts from Tuesday to Sunday. Let us know your availability when you apply.

Duties include:

  • Monitor their son overnight, noting his oxygen saturation, heart rate and overall condition ("settled", "awake", "agitated") on an hourly basis.
  • Silence false alarms on medical equipment.
  • Resolve simple known issues with the medical equipment.
  • Help their son get to the washroom during the night, if needed.
  • Light childcare related tasks such as folding the son’s clean laundry (the family has a housekeeper who will take care of the more in-depth cleaning).
  • Allow the parents to sleep.

One or both parents will be in the home during overnight shifts so if anything unexpected happened they would step in to help. The nanny will be required to stay awake for the entire shift.

Parents are detail-oriented so clear verbal and written instruction will be provided, as well as simple training with some medical equipment will be provided.

Given the medical fragility of their son, it is very important that the family stays healthy, so a Nanny who is conscious of health, cleanliness and hygiene is desired. The Nanny would need to wear a mask while in their home, except to eat and drink, and should always wear a mask around their son and hand wash/sanitize often and before interacting with their son. The Nanny should also get the flu vaccine each year and should be vaccinated against COVID-19.

There is a hypoallergenic dog in the home (but she is crated overnight).

No cooking is required. No car or driver's license required.
