Position Overview Cemetery Operations is looking to hire team members to perform cemetery maintenance and to assist with cemetery operations as part of a highly collaborative Cemetery team, including duties such as completion of interments, turf maintenance and flowerbed maintenance.
n Ote Initial selection for available positions will be for applications received prior to February 3, 2025. Applications received after this date will be kept in an application pool in case of future opportunities. Interviews will begin February 2025 .
Responsibilities
- Maintenance, repair, and renovation of turf in, on and around City cemeteries .
- Turf maintenance and turf renovation, including lawn mowing, line trimming, top-dressing/overseeding, aerating and leaf collection .
- Maintenance of flower beds and hanging baskets; including edging, tiling, planting, weeding, and providing general care and maintenance of mixed perennial, bi-annual and annual plant material .
- Watering and fertilizing plant material .
- Assist with preparing graves, such as setting out greens and lowering device and attend graveside services in the presence of family and/or funeral directors.
- Assist with final gravesite activities including lowering casket or urn, filling gravesite with soil, leveling and compacting and replacing with sod and/or seed.
- Completion of monument foundations which includes digging, framing, mixing and pouring concrete and leveling .
- Performs o ther related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
- Valid MTO “G” class driver’s license in good standing and a bility to provide Drivers Abstract at your own expense as a condition of employment.
- A bility to exercise compassion, empathy, and sensitivity daily with grieving families who may exhibit a wide range of emotions.
- H ighly developed coping skills to deal with emotional and stressful situations.
- Good verbal and written communication skills and ability to keep accurate written records
- Must be flexible to work varying shifts, & rotational duties, weekends and overtime as required.
- R eliable with a good attitude and employment record.
