About the role
We are looking for an innovative and accountable Civil/Stormwater Engineer with a passion for delivering the right solution to serve each client’s unique needs to work in KWL’s stormwater sector, on stormwater, civil, and water resources-type projects. This role can be based full-time in the office or it can be a hybrid work schedule. We are looking for someone who can drive and lead projects, ask questions and get things done, and who will collaborate with and support senior staff as well as work with and delegate to junior staff. What You’ll Do
- Concept, preliminary and detailed design of stormwater and related infrastructure such as culverts, detention ponds, and storm sewers, with a focus on green infrastructure design and implementation.
- Support site development including drawing preparation, coordination with internal and external teams, and preparation of technical memoranda and design briefs
- Stormwater management planning including researching and understanding site context, developing criteria, and creating watershed and site-based integrated stormwater management plans,
- Working closely with municipal clients and undertaking drainage and stormwater-related design projects;
- Cost estimating and developing prioritized capital plans;
- Support construction services, including site reviews, and response to contractor inquiries
- Training and supervising junior staff; and
- Report and proposal writing.
What You’ll Bring
- Registration or eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in British Columbia
- 4-8 years of experience in civil servicing design, stormwater, water resources, hydrology/hydraulics or other related fields. More experience may be considered for a higher level role.
- Experience in development of stormwater management plans at a watershed or subdivision scale.
- Experience with stormwater modelling software, (PC-SWMM, or similar), and spreadsheet based stormwater calculations
- Design and construction experience with stormwater or other infrastructure projects including coordination with other disciplines (e.g., civil servicing, geotechnical, landscape)
- Demonstrated ability to work independently under direction, coordinate with other team members, and support delivery of high quality technical products, both designs and reports
- Pro-active attitude with an interest in innovative and client-focused problem-solving
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) and be able to work with team members in a multi-disciplinary environment
- A desire to learn new skills and an eagerness to grow within your role
- A valid driver’s license (in good standing) is mandatory
- Must be physically able to conduct field visits commensurate with project work. This may include handling and operation of equipment, travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, and outdoor site visits in all weather conditions on uneven/varying ground terrain.
