PSR (Private Sponsorship of Refugees) Program Liaison

(12 Months Contract)

JIAS Toronto is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to helping immigrants with resettlement in the Greater Toronto Area. JIAS Toronto assists lawfully admitted immigrants and refugees in meeting basic financial, social, legal, and other requirements of immigration. We work to advance the well-being and social integration of newcomers by providing a full range of outreach, support, counseling, training, and referral resources.

The Refugee Sponsorship Liaison is responsible for coordinating between JIAS, Constituent Groups (refugee sponsors), donors and volunteers supporting refugees. This position plays a role in educating about and engaging community in refugee sponsorship and support and plays a key role in coordinating all stakeholders’ efforts in this initiative. The incumbent will be part of the refugee team, supervised by the Language and Settlement Director. They will coordinate with the agency’s Volunteer Coordinators to onboard sponsors/volunteers supporting refugees, and be responsible for providing orientation, training and support. This is a one (1) year full-time contract position.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Respond to inquiries and provide information about the PSR Program to prospective CGs, co-sponsors, donors, and volunteers.
  • In collaboration with the Volunteers Coordinators, recruit sponsors and volunteers through public education about refugee sponsorship and resettlement.
  • Cost sponsorships as per current Resettlement Assistance Program (RAP) rates.
  • Maintain records and data regarding refugee sponsorships.
  • Work closely with the volunteer team on the onboarding of volunteers for refugee settlement support.
  • Act as a liaison between JIAS, CGs, donors and volunteers and communicate with other stakeholders, i.e.
    • Provide regular updates to CGs on the progress of sponsorship applications.
    • Obtain information and gather documentation for overseas visa offices.
    • Meet with sponsors/volunteers prior to refugees’ arrival to prepare and plan for settlement support
  • Develop training materials and resource guides.
  • Provide education and training about the PSR program to JIAS staff, CGs, co-sponsors, volunteers, and other stakeholders.
  • Develop content for the refugee newsletter and other communications.
  • Have an understanding of legislation and government prescribed procedures, regulation and standards of JIAS programs.
  • Report on metrics for funders and other stakeholders.
  • Other duties as assigned or required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma in the field of Human Services, Immigration, or relevant post-secondary education
  • Knowledge about the Private Sponsorship of Refugees Program.
  • Experience working with volunteers and vulnerable communities.
  • Knowledge in the issues affecting immigrant and refugee communities.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office Package (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
  • Excellent interpersonal, writing, and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task Most be detail oriented.
  • Experience using client record management systems, Salesforce.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to travel independently around the GTA when needed for programs and events.
  • Fluency in languages that relate to the Agency client base may be considered an asset such as Arabic, Tigrinya, Farsi, Kurmanji, Pashto and Dari.
