About the role
At De Havilland Aircraft of Canada, we’re advancing the future of aerospace, and artificial intelligence is one of the tools transforming how we design, build, and support our aircraft.
We are seeking an AI Solutions Architect to develop and deliver practical, high-impact AI systems that enhance decision-making, streamline operations, and unlock new capabilities across the business.
This is a hands-on technical role, reporting to the Director of IT, and closely aligned with De Havilland’s enterprise data initiatives. You will architect, build, and deploy Generative AI applications while guiding others in applying AI responsibly and effectively. You’ll collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, customer support, and corporate functions to deliver AI solutions that drive efficiency, safety, and innovation across the entire business, all in support of De Havilland’s mission to design and sustain exceptional aircraft that serve communities around the world.
As De Havilland continues to form its AI capability, you will champion AI literacy across the organization, helping teams understand where and how AI can responsibly add value to operations. You will also play a key role in defining and growing De Havilland’s AI practice, ensuring every initiative is rooted in measurable business value, responsible governance, and alignment with strategic priorities.
This position involves regular travel, up to 50% nationally and internationally, to work directly with De Havilland sites, partners, and project teams to ensure AI systems are designed and deployed in alignment with real-world operations.
The Role You'll Play
As the AI Solutions Architect, you will:
- Drive the end-to-end design, architecture, and delivery of AI-powered products and platforms, leveraging Generative AI, LLMs, and advanced machine learning techniques to solve real business challenges.
- Design, build, and deploy Generative AI applications and services using Python and modern frameworks, from prototype to production.
- Develop scalable microservices and reusable AI components, applying container orchestration and automation practices to ensure high availability and efficiency using minimal infrastructure resources.
- Develop robust retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems, integrating enterprise and technical data securely and effectively.
- Establish and champion best practices for AI system lifecycle management, including model evaluation, observability, and continuous improvement.
- Implement guardrails, governance, and monitoring frameworks to ensure AI is used responsibly and transparently.
- Collaborate with technical and operational teams to identify and deliver opportunities where AI can improve performance, safety, and efficiency.
- Shape and contribute to business cases for AI initiatives, ensuring that proposed solutions deliver measurable value and align with De Havilland’s strategic priorities.
- Partner cross-functionally with product, IT, and data teams to align AI initiatives with enterprise strategy and ensure seamless integration across systems.
- Represent De Havilland externally at AI forums, partnerships, and consortiums, contributing thought leadership and industry insight.
- Lead by doing, including writing production-quality code, conducting technical reviews, and mentoring peers in AI solution design and best practices.
- Stay ahead of emerging AI technologies, bringing forward approaches that strengthen De Havilland’s digital and operational capabilities.
What You'll Bring
You’re a seasoned technologist who combines strong software development skills with a deep understanding of modern AI systems. You lead through action, solving problems, building prototypes, and translating ideas into durable, maintainable solutions.
- Hands-on experience fine-tuning, evaluating, and deploying open- and closed-source LLMs (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic, Meta, Mistral).
- Proven experience with Generative AI and LLMs, including prompt engineering, embeddings, vector databases, and agentic workflows.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals — at least 3 years developing in Python, ideally with FastAPI, testing frameworks, and CI/CD.
- Proficiency in data engineering and MLOps: working with SQL/NoSQL databases, model versioning, and evaluation pipelines.
- Experience integrating AI solutions into legacy or safety-critical systems, ensuring reliability, traceability, and compliance.
- Experience deploying on cloud platforms (Azure preferred; AWS or GCP also valuable).
- Experience with microservice architecture and container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) for scalable, high-availability AI systems optimized for efficient resource use.
- Familiarity with infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation) and automation pipelines.
- Deep understanding of security, privacy, and regulatory compliance in enterprise or industrial contexts.
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills — able to translate technical detail into strategic value for diverse audiences.
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 50% nationally and internationally to support AI implementation and collaboration across De Havilland sites.
- A growth mindset — curiosity, experimentation, and a drive to turn advanced AI concepts into systems that deliver tangible results.
What You'll Get In Return
- The opportunity to shape the role of AI in the next generation of Canadian aerospace, contributing directly to programs that define De Havilland’s future.
- A collaborative, respectful, and innovative environment where your technical expertise and creativity are valued.
- Access to professional development and career growth opportunities, including exposure to cloud, data, and advanced analytics platforms.
- A competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.
- The chance to make a lasting impact, applying AI to make aviation smarter, safer, and more sustainable.
