AltaGas - Director, Sustainability
The Director of Sustainability plays a critical role in shaping and executing AltaGas’s sustainability strategy. This leadership position is responsible for developing and implementing programs and systems that support our corporate strategy.
The role is responsible for leading the reporting and disclosure process for the annual Sustainability Report and other related documents, ensuring accuracy and transparency. This position reports directly to the Vice President, Sustainability and Stakeholder Relations.
What You'll Do:
- Implement AltaGas’ comprehensive sustainability strategy and play a key role in advancing AltaGas’ sustainability journey
- Lead and develop a high-performing sustainability team responsible for supporting the implementation of AltaGas’ sustainability initiatives and preparing all sustainability-related disclosures
- Develop and manage a roadmap toward annual reporting and disclosures. Oversee the coordination of various internal subject matter experts and consultants to complete timely submissions in support of the company’s sustainability reporting
- Collaborate with internal subject matter experts, consultants, and other key stakeholders to gather needed information and develop meaningful insights that inform business strategy
- Leverage technology for customizable reporting strategies tailored to various stakeholders for awareness and to assist with decision-making
- Lead the improvement of Sustainability programs, including tracking, assessing, and evaluating associated KPIs
- Benchmark performance against peer and aspirant companies and make recommendations to improve the company’s performance across a variety of sustainability ratings and rankings
- Serve as the subject matter expert on third party reporting guidance including the ISSB, CSDS, TCFD, GRI, SASB, and ESG research providers including MSCI, ISS, Sustainalytics, etc. as well as global frameworks such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs)
- Design, schedule, and communicate key project milestones and reporting deadlines with cross-functional teams and develop customizable reporting strategies tailored to various stakeholders needs
- Manage relationships with rating and reporting agencies as well as established nonprofit partners for the purpose of reporting impact
- Integrate and work collaboratively with internal stakeholders, including legal, communications, and business units, to ensure alignment and advancement of our sustainability strategy
Your Qualifications:
- 10+ years relevant work experience, including experience working in a sustainability-focused role
- Prior leadership experience, including development of project plans, leading cross functional teams and collaborating with internal stakeholders
- Demonstrated experience preparing external disclosure materials and internal materials for senior leadership and the Board of Directors
- Strong knowledge of sustainability reporting standards, including the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, and the International Sustainability Standards Board standards, as well as understanding of the regulatory requirements and legal considerations impacting sustainability-related disclosures
- Exceptional analytical skills with proven ability to read, analyze, interpret and translate large sets of data into simple insights or reports
- Ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders at all levels throughout the organization with strong ability to partner and influence business leaders
- Comfortable with ambiguity, brings structure to unclear problems, and drives progress without having the full picture
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including ability to prepare and deliver Board presentations
- Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field, such as Business, Finance, Environmental Science, Sustainability, or related field required
- Prior experience working in the energy industry is preferred
