ST. FRANCIS XAVIER PARISH STONEY CREEK Job Posting: Custodian
Schedule: Tuesday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (flexible if needed)
Status: Part-Time (28 hours per week)
Reports To : Pastor
Position Summary St. Francis Xavier Parish is seeking a reliable, self-motivated Custodian who will ensure that our church, hall, offices, and parish facilities are maintained in a clean, safe, and welcoming condition. The Custodian plays an essential role in supporting the mission of the parish by providing a well-kept environment conducive to worship, ministry, and community life.
Key Responsibilities
- Cleaning & Maintenance
- Perform daily cleaning of the church, hall, washrooms, offices, sacristy, and meeting rooms.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, polish, and sanitize all necessary areas.
- Empty garbage and recycling bins and manage waste disposal.
- Maintain floors, windows, entrances, and common areas.
- Restock supplies (washroom products, cleaning materials, etc.).
- Ensure proper operation and cleanliness of parish equipment.
Facilities Care & Support
- Perform minor repairs and routine maintenance (e.g., replacing light bulbs, tightening fixtures, patching small wall areas, etc.).
- Set up and take down tables, chairs, and equipment for parish events, meetings, and liturgical functions.
- Assist the Pastor and parish staff with facility-related tasks as needed.
- Maintain safe, hazard-free walkways, including snow removal/salting of steps and entrances (as required).
Health, Safety & Security
- Follow all diocesan health and safety policies and cleaning protocols.
- Maintain proper storage and handling of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
- Report facility concerns, maintenance issues, or safety hazards promptly.
- Ensure secure locking and unlocking routines of the parish premises when required.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience in custodial, janitorial, or facility maintenance work (preferred).
- Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, bending, climbing stairs, and standing for extended periods.
- Strong attention to detail, reliability, and ability to work independently.
- Good communication skills and the ability to interact respectfully with parishioners, volunteers, and staff.
- Understanding and support of the mission and values of the Roman Catholic Church.
