Position Description This position offers a unique chance to apply engineering expertise in a dynamic, hands-on environment on projects that have a global impact. As a member ofThe Power Team at GDLS-C, the Project Specialist/Engineer plays a key role in upholding engineering excellence through supportingproduct verification, testing, and future manufacturing activities. This role will also have the exciting opportunity to regularlysupport these activities abroad in Europe at partner sites - ensuring our standards of excellence are maintained.
Leadership
- Coordinate and execute GDLS-C Engineering efforts and technical aspects of subcontractor activitiesas a member of the Integrated Product Team (IPT)
- Advise and support on technical issues of the subcontract and support alignment with broader project execution objectives
- Support and assist with coordinating updates and reviews of the subcontract(s) requirements
- Champion compliance with internal Engineering processes and customer-specific expectations.
Planning and Analysis
- Assist with project planning and execution forscope, cost and schedule, using EVMS, existing departmental procedures and guidance documents.
- Utilize internal Engineering tools to identify, communicate and mitigate risk to ensure project success.
- Support development of Engineering Proposals/BOEs/ROMs.
Collaboration and Communication
- Keep internal and external stakeholders informed of progress & status.
- Support preparation of project deliverables, attend customer meetings as required by contract and project scope of work (Start of Work Meetings, Technical interchange meetings, Customer Design reviews, etc.).
- Liaise with other GDLS divisions and other departments to ensure all technical solutions are developed in accordance with contract and GDLS-C requirements
- Support subcontract technical issues, prepare responses, address requests issued directly or through Program Office and Contracts
Knowledge Skills, & Abilities Required Education & Experience
- University Degree or college diploma in a technical discipline;
- Minimum 3-5 years relevant experience;
- Must be eligible for registration with the Controlled Goods Program;
- Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a government of Canada “Reliability” status and/or Level 2 (Secret) security clearance;
- Must be able to meet Anthropometrical Size Restrictions for confined space
Skills & Abilities
- Ability to interpret and communicate complex technical requirements across multi-disciplinary teams
- Demonstrated problem solving and analytical abilities
- Ability to be productive and agile in a demanding work environment
- Proven ability to work independently while collaborating effectively in a cross-functional team
- Strong organizational and time management skills; able to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Proven ability to work independently with
- Demonstrated ability to document, present, and defend technical recommendations;
- Positive, proactive attitude with a commitment to continuous improvement and maintain high standards of excellence and be able to work well in a team environment;
- Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite;
- Ability to travel (20% Cdn) and (20% US & Int'l) and possess/be able to acquire and maintain a valid passport
Preferred Qualifications
- 5 years relevant experience;
- Experience in the application and industry knowledge for Heavy Truck (Class 8) and Ancillary Equipment solutions
- Demonstrated ability to work in a cross-functional team and provide technical leadership and direction as appropriate
- Experience supervising technical personnel, delegating tasks and managing cost /schedule
- Experienced in major contract/subcontracts development and execution
- Professional Engineering designation
- Experience with military contracts
Other Eligibility Criteria
- Must be eligible for registration with the Controlled Goods Program;
- Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a government of Canada “Reliability” status and/or Level 2 (Secret) security clearance;
